I have just directed a teaser for a feature film starring Luke Treadaway, Ruth Wilson, and Lindsay Duncan, which was screened at the BFI in Oct 2014. We are aiming to shoot the full feature in September 2015.
Since graduating from LAMDA I have worked extensively as an actor in theatre, film, tv and radio. I was recently at The National Theatre, playing opposite Olivier-Award winning actor Bertie Carvel, in Olivier-Award winning director Bijan Sheibani's production of Damned By Despair. I have also recently finished filming The Powder Room, playing opposite Sheridan Smith, Jaime Winstone and Kate Nash, being produced by BAFTA winning film-producer Damian Jones (The Iron Lady, The History Boys, Kidulthood). Other credits at the National Theatre include Mark Ravenhill's Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat. Other theatre credits include Hamlet at Shakespeare's Globe, and the 5 star show 'Events While Guarding The Bofors Gun.'
My television work includes Being Human, Holby City, and Aces Falling (all on the BBC), whilst other film work includes 7 Lives, and Being Nice.
As a director, I have also made several award winning short films, a comedy TV pilot The Family Bond, and am also currently finishing another feature film script.

I went to see Alex for some private sessions this year and found him to be a highly intuitive, sensitive and imaginative tutor. He has a natural ability to put you at ease and knows how to create a relaxed, freeing environment where the emphasis is always on exploration rather than perfection, as it should be. He also recognizes that the development of confidence is essential to an actor's progress. As such he is generous in his praise but also honest and constructively critical where necessary...
(continued)... His direction is never rigid or forcefully expressed, and his own background as an actor means he understands that all choices must make sense to the actor himself. Consequently he will never encourage you to adhere to direction that you yourself cannot believe in. He has a sensitive, thorough understanding of a text and encourages the actor to tease out its multitude of possibilities, and is always interested in seeking out choices that are unexpected and interesting.
(continued)... I would wholeheartedly recommend him to any actor seeking private tuition - whether for general development, preparation for drama school auditions, or simply to any actor who feels they have lost their way a little bit. His attention to detail, obvious passion for the craft of acting and relaxed, friendly manner make him an ideal mentor to work on an actor's weaknesses and develop their existing strengths.
Alex's direction totally opened up the speeches I have been working on. He got me to see so much stuff that had passed me by, but also made me feel more confident in finding details for myself. It felt kind of like rehearsing a play, and made me feel great to be working with a proper professional. Also his work on verse-speaking for Shakespeare was REALLY useful. And he's a properly nice guy. So thanks a lot Alex. 2 recalls so far... Fingers crossed.
I was quite shy when I first went to see Alex, and although I knew I wanted to go to drama school, I wasn't sure how to go about it. He always made me very comfortable, and advised me on every step that I took: choosing pieces, working on my pieces, dealing with my auditions, which schools etc. I went from feeling passionate but a bit lost, to being accepted into one of the major drama schools. And I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have been the case if it weren't for Alex. I would highly recommend him.
Alex definitely took my speeches to the next level, catering closely for my specific needs&tailoring his approach to suit me. We talked through my characters in a lot of depth,& I was helped to develop my pieces in interesting ways, playing 'against' the text rather than giving it a superficial & boring reading. He is a bright, thoughtful, & charismatic teacher,& gave me a lot of confidence & inspiration - probably the most valuable thing for any audition. And I just heard - I got into Guildhall!
The sessions I had with Alex were fantastic and such a great help! We worked on characterisation and background, as well as delivery, until I truly got to grips with the monologues I was preparing. The sessions really made me feel confident in my audition speeches as well as providing me with useful tips and exercises that I will be able to use again and again. I would thoroughly recommend Alex to anyone looking for help with drama school speeches as I definitely feel it was money well spent!
Alex has honed the many qualities required in a good coach. He is always encouraging, but he challenges and pushes you to reach the full capacity of your potential. When your confidence lacks, his passion and enthusiasm for acting is infectious and can't help but rub off on you. Not least that he is bright, full of energy and fun.
Alex gave me a lot of confidence in myself as an actress, as well as finding what works best and most naturally in my monologues. He was a great help in finding meaning in my classical speeches, and making the emotions clear in all my monologues. I would definitely recommend him to other drama school applicants.
Alex made me feel very comfortable and his classes really helped me to understand my character better, to connect to it's personality and past and to make the speech more interesting. It was also vey helpful to be working with someone who has done this not so long ago and who can therefore remember very well how it is to audition for drama school and relate to you. All in all it was a lot of fun and I felt that my speeches were much better after these classes!
