About the lesson

Are you looking to prepare for the Cambridge IELTS Academic or General exams. Maybe this is your first time, or you’ve tried before and, despite all the hard work, you’ve received similar scores.

These exams can seem confusing and daunting but please don’t worry. With a structured language approach to the exams, where everything is broken down, explained and practised, I can promise that you’ll improve and achieve the scores you deserve!

I can help you with just one part of the test or many parts - the more I know about your language background, the better I can assist. For example, perhaps you need help with...

● ...the writing tasks and not sure what features to include for writing task 1, how to structure your writing task 2, or even how to upgrade your vocabulary and grammar so it sounds more academic.

● ...the reading tasks and how to improve your speed, understanding unfamiliar vocabulary and how to locate the answer (especially for those T/F/NG and Y/N/NG questions).

● ...the listening component where you must read the questions and write your answers, all while still listening to the CD. For example, how to handle all those multiple choice questions.

● ...speaking and how to improve your pronunciation, extending your answer and feeling more comfortable in front of the examiner.

Before we have any lessons, I offer a free assessment of you English language skills where we’ll identify your strengths and weaknesses. I can appreciate that maybe time is short and possibly there’s a deadline, so the tuition is not only efficient but more importantly effective.

The material we will use is professionally designed, and with access to teaching material from Cambridge, Oxford, Longman, Macmillan and many others, everything used will be specific and unique to your needs. And, more importantly, it’s all relevant to your current situation, background and provides important context for learning new skills.

What's more - if the material to help you learn a valuable skill isn't available, then it'll be created to help you overcome that particular challenge.

So, about me!

I’m a mature, highly-qualified and professional language teacher with over 20 years of experience, helping beginners to specialised professionals improve their language and overcome the difficulties that they face using English – both for the Cambridge ESOL exams, and for general English. I've worked with organisations such as Cambridge Assessment, Pearson, and the British Council to develop the examination material that is used worldwide.

I'm a teacher that's trained in identifying problems specific to the way you use English and adapt the lessons to turn those weaknesses into strengths! I take each of the skills needed in the exam, look at how the skill works, why it's important, start with simpler examples before working up to exam level examples. If you want to know why you have to complete a particular task, or learn a certain skill, then I will be able to explain its relevance in helping you pass the exam and use English more naturally.

Through this step by step approach, we work together to build up your confidence for not only the exam, but also for a life afterwards using English more naturally day to day. I will never rush you through any of the skills and only move onto the next part of the practice. Your pace matters as I'd like you to enjoy the classes, and not just learn from them.

A lot of the students I help are looking to prepare themselves for:

● university entrance (from undergraduate all the way through to PhD)
● migrating (either from or to the UK)
● a professional qualification or employment position such as in healthcare (as a nurse, doctor or midwife) and need to satisfy NMC or GMC requirements.

How I can help you.

The classes can be 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 hours long. You can have these classes one-to-one, or choose to study with a group of friends. In each one we will have:

● a homework review section
.....going through each of the assigned tasks, identifying problems and providing you material to deal with those issues.

● an input section
.....where we go through a new task, explaining each step, why it’s important, and the skills you’ll need.

● a student-led section
....here you will show what you understanding. Don’t worry – I’ll be there to guide you! It's a great time to ask questions about steps you're not clear about.

● homework
.....focused specifically on the material introduced in the class.

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they best meet your needs.

Details

The cost per hour is £27.00, and a typical class (either online or face to face) will last either 1.5 or 2.0 hours. During that time we will:

> run through previous homework
> identify mistakes
> provide practice material focused on those problematic areas
> introduce new skill area(s) OR develop existing skill area(s)

Blocks of classes are available as follows:

> 10~14 classes: 5.0% discount
> 15~19 classes: 7.5% discount
> 20(+) classes: 10% discount

If you'd like to study with a friend (or friends), then the price drops to £18.00 per hour.

The price for face-to-face and online classes is the same and includes all the material you'll need.

If you run into any questions or problems during the study period, I'm available outside class time. So, don't be afraid to ask - I'll do all I can to help you succeed!
