Let's go

Nothing beats the feeling of getting inspired through real-life stories and actual demonstrations so let's get the ball rolling with these three documentary/movie recommendations on swimming.

1. Joseph Schooling - The Michael Phelps Fan Who Beat Him at the Olympics

Joseph Schooling is no stranger to us when it comes to competitive swimming. Watch this documentary to see the story of Schooling from his childhood in Singapore, his intensive training in the U.S up till his fateful win over Michael Phelps in Rio 2016.

Interview snippets featuring his parents might leave you in tears.

2. Touch The Wall

This real and raw documentary features the journey of five-time Olympic champion, Missy Franklin to the top alongside her friendship and comradeship with former swimming veteran Kara Lynn Joyce.

You'll be inspired by how both of them motivate each other by bringing the best of one another through their training together.

3. Swimming With Men

A slightly lighthearted switch from the first two documentaries, Swimming With Men offers a humorous but thought-provoking take on male synchronised swimming.

A good watch to encourage you to pick up swimming and your passion regardless of your age and occupation.

What Should You Look For In A Swimming Tutor/Coach?

Don't let your inspiration stop here. Put them into action by enrolling yourself in a group swimming session or a private tutoring lesson.

We understand that it's not easy to decide on a swimming tutor when there are so many options available.

Not sure where to start looking for one? Visit the Superprof homepage to start reviewing a wide selection of tutors who are ever ready to share their knowledge with you, ranging from 1001 subjects including swimming.

At Superprof, you can look for a swimming tutor with great experience and great qualifications that offers you a personalised learning experience. While it's important to check the box regarding the hourly rate, teaching methodology and learning schedules, here are three important keys that you should take note of as you look for a reliable swimming tutor.

Key 1: Someone who is passionate and well-versed in various swimming techniques

When reviewing the tutors' profiles, observe how they describe their motivation to learn swimming in the first place and why they venture into teaching.

That being said, it's essential to confirm and discuss with them the scope of their lessons and also their swimming curriculum if you intend to master all the swimming strokes or even compete one day.

Key 2: Someone who is willing to diversify their teaching methodology according to your pace

Every swimmer is different and learns at a different pace. As you communicate with your tutor, be sure to tell him or her about your concerns, preferences and how you genuinely feel about your learning experience.

Of course, a good swimming tutor will also evaluate your progress from time and time and adjust their learning methodology to help you achieve the best swimming experience. For instance, if you still feel not so confident while learning the breaststroke, you can communicate with your tutor to give you more core lessons to improve before advancing into other strokes like the butterfly stroke.

Key 3: Someone who is responsible

At the end of the day, remember that you are investing your time, money and energy in your swimming lessons. You deserve a responsible and dedicated swimming tutor.

By reading the past reviews and recommendations of their previous students on the Superprof tutor profiles, you'll learn more about the swimming tutor's attitude during their lessons, in terms of their punctuality and commitment towards their students.
