About the lesson
I strongly believe in tailoring my approach to meet the needs of the student. In our first lesson, I aim to (1) understand what the student's academic goals are; (2) gauge a sense of what level they are currently working at, including their strengths and weaknesses; (3) begin to lay the foundations of a relationship of mutual trust and confidence. I then plan my lessons accordingly based off of this initial assessment. I find that having structured lessons allows for the greatest progress to be made. Having said that, I value having a degree of flexibility and make sure lessons accommodate for whatever it is that the student feels is deserving of the most attention, for example working on essay improvements or completing homework.

I have a great command of the English language and as someone who thoroughly enjoys both reading and teaching, I have a deep understanding of a range of literary techniques (and 'exam hacks') which my students have found incredibly useful to incorporate into their own work. I am familiar with most curriculums and my mother, a qualified English teacher, has been teaching for 13 years so I have access to plenty of materials which will come in handy!
