About Catherine

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am a highly experienced classical pianist and have been playing for most of my life, regularly performing as a soloist in functions and local competitions (both in Kent and Essex, where I am originally from), and occasionally on keyboard for more casual gigs and events. I am a very experienced singer and have performed extensively in solo and choral settings, many times at the BBC Proms and other venues worldwide, such as the Sydney Opera House and St. Marks Basilica, Venice. I am a Bishop's Chorister and a member of the RSCM'S Millennium Youth Choir, and have recently been awarded a choral scholarship at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square.

I have a lot of experience as a piano and singing teacher, and am very happy to teach pupils of all ages and standards. I have run regular singing classes with Canterbury Age Concern and am very happy to welcome pupils of any age to begin their music journey, either through their voice or on the piano. I have also spent two years running, directing and accompanying my own children's choir (a training choir which acted as a stepping stone for very young children before their entrance into one of the UK's main youth choirs), and have taught individual piano lessons at an annual performing arts summer school, for children and young people aged 8-18.

I will be studying for a PGCE in Primary Education (nursery and Early Years) within the next year and absolutely love working with nursery and primary aged children, and would be delighted to help very little ones explore the piano or find their natural voice.

I teach classical piano, classical singing and music theory.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a 2.1 Bachelors Degree in Music with Honours, and majored in performance in joint study as a classical pianist and singer. I also have ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction for both.

- How much do you charge?

Piano -

1 hour - £23
30 mins - £12

Singing -

1 hour - £23
30 mins - £12

Early years (up to 6 years old) -

1 hour - £20
30 mins - £10

Music theory -

1 hour - £23
30 mins - £12

- Where do you teach?

I teach at my own home and although I do not have my own transport, am willing to travel around Canterbury and to surrounding areas (such as Deal, Herne Bay, Whitstable etc), and may require a small amount of travel expense when necessary.

- When are you available?

I am available on weekdays afternoon/evening and weekend evenings. I am also available throughout school holiday and half-term times.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy to welcome all ages and levels.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I teach ABRSM and Trinity up to Grade 8 in classical singing, piano and music theory. I am also very happy to teach just for the fun of music.
