About Ernest

- What kind of experience do you have?

Extensive teaching and performing career in US, Asia, and Europe.

I had previously been a piano instructor at Kingston University and Hong Kong University. I am also an honorary professor at the Guangxi University in China.

No.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am also a piano technician and am a consultant for piano-building companies. My expertise is in piano restoration. Learning about the piano itself will also be part of my teaching syllabus.

American pianist with the fullest credential now students in the Ealing area.
Juilliard-graduate, with a concert agenda in Europe, US and Asia, I will be based in London for two to three weeks each month.

Piano: from intermediate (Grade 3+) to performance level (diploma+)

Students will be exposed to technical studies as well as a wide range of repertoire. Imparting in-depth musical knowledge and history will make each piece of music lively and meaningful.

Having a performing artist as your teacher gives lessons a much more varied and in-depth approach.

- How much do you charge?

Depending on location:

Grade 3 to 5 - £35 to £40 per hour
Grade 6 and 7 - £40 to £50 per hour
Grade 8 and above - £55 and above

- Where do you teach?

I will only be in London two to three weeks (at most) each month. My work involves long hours of practice and research, hence I can only accept a limited number of students.

At present I can teach within Ealing and Ealing Broadway area.

Piano: from intermediate (Grade 3+) to performance level (diploma+)

I have a large collection of music (in mp3) and scores in (pdf) which are available for all my students.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Lessons with a concert artist is a very different experience. I stress on the enjoyment of music and the knowledge of music. I can prepare you for exams, auditions, concerts, or competitions; at the same time it can also just be an enriching experience of learning about piano and piano music without extracurricular obligations. Music exists beyond ABRSM exams, Beethoven and Chopin, sonatas and exercises. There is a whole world of classical music from France, Spain, Russia, the Latin Americas and other places that you can simply enjoy and play either towards a calculated goal or just for fun. Learning music is a way to enrich a person, not a resume.
