About Gabrielle
- What kind of experience do you have?
For the last two years I have been tutoring students for a range of subjects and levels including Primary and 11+ preparation, GCSE and A Level English, and A Level Film and Media Studies. I have also taught English as an additional language to international students, along with British culture and customs. I have successfully helped GCSE and A Level students to gain the grades they needed to develop their education further. My latest A Level students are now happily settled into the universities of their choice and my GCSE students are starting A Levels and Further Education courses, as per their target.
I currently have students ranging from Year 3 through to A level age, as well as two adults whom I am tutoring in creative writing; one of whom has been published in Europe but now wants to write in English and using a different medium, the other an aspiring novelist. I am also teaching English to two French teenagers, who are visiting England for a week with their family, for the sole purpose of receiving English tuition.
I have worked and volunteered at five schools now, including one primary school and one first school. At the moment, I help out once a week in a Reception class, where I assist children with their reading. Much of my school experience has been working for the Support department, focusing on children with Special Educational Needs. Some of the pupils have behavioural issues or physical disabilities, but most of them have learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism. I worked with these children within the mainstream classroom environment, offering them encouragement and support and helping them to understand the teachers' instructions. I also occasionally worked on a one-to-one basis with them away from the classroom, helping them to focus without any distractions.
Prior to being a mother, I worked in television for over 10 years, including work as a script editor for EastEnders. I have read, edited and rewritten many scripts for television - my creative background means I have a strong emphasis on reading, writing and communication skills. While working at the BBC in 2005, I was made redundant, and my husband and I decided to turn a negative experience into a positive one so we spent about six months travelling to places including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India. We returned home when I became pregnant with our first daughter. For about two years I freelanced from home, writing and editing for a couple of travel websites and reading and reporting on scripts for an independent TV company.
Once I became a mother myself, my priorities changed and I gave up my television career to work with young people - something I find rewarding, challenging and inspiring on a daily basis. I feel great satisfaction in working with children and helping them to achieve all that they can be - I enjoy their company and find their enquiring minds and personal growth and development fascinating. Of course I also enjoy working with adults and have two such clients now.

As a mum of two and in my career experience so far, I have learned to be patient, supportive and encouraging with children, young people and inexperienced, unconfident adults. I'm a warm, approachable person with a calm, unflappable demeanour and a good sense of humour.
Here are a couple of testimonials from parents of students I have tutored recently:
'When my daughter entered into her A-Level year she lost focus, confidence and everything seemed to get too much for her. I am so pleased I chose Mrs Robinson; she was extremely supportive and sensitive to my daughter's needs, encouraging her to build her confidence and subject knowledge. I was always impressed with the lessons, which were always well structured and delivered; this was key to my daughter's successful A-Level results. Mrs Robinson always gave 110%, often spending her personal time doing research so that my daughter could get the most from her lesson time.
Mrs Robinson was always professional, yet approachable; reliable and punctual.
My daughter is now happily studying at University and I would sincerely recommend Mrs Robinson as a personal tutor.' - Lisa Dickeson
'I contacted Gaby as I was looking for a tutor to assist my daughter who was struggling in her English GCSE, and needed to receive a good grade to do the college course she wanted. Gaby was immediately very understanding of my daughter's needs a a dyslexic student and was very good at boosting her self-confidence, which was desperately needed. My daughter got the grade she needed and is now happily attending her college. Gaby is now helping my younger son to improve his English. I would happily recommend Gaby, she has a great understanding of a child's needs, as she is a parent herself, and is very caring and friendly.' - Nicola Cheeseman
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Whilst preparing our son for his 11+ exam, we found Gaby to be reliable, technical as well as motivational to our son. This not only boosted his prospects of succeeding in his exam but also gave him greater confidence away from his academic work. We found Gaby's approach to tutoring refreshing and would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking not just for a tutor but for someone who is trustworthy, highly competent and sincere in her work. We have already pencilled Gaby in for our younger child.
