About James

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am a fully trained EFL teacher, having completed an intensive CELTA course. I have taught English in both France (at the Universite de Bourgogne language centre) and in China (at a middle school in Guangdong province). During my time in China, I also taught extra-curricular French, business English classes at the South China Power Grid, Guangzhou, and elementary English to a group of infants.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

No, but this can be arranged if required.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained for my CELTA qualification at St Giles, North London.
I taught overseas through the British Council.

About the lesson

My two passions are languages and teaching. I have lengthy experience in these fields, and I thoroughly enjoy enabling others to learn languages. I am always keen to teach all age ranges and levels around London. I look forward to hearing from you.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I am fully qualified to teach English as a foreign language, as well as French, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.
I also have excellent experience of proofreading thanks to my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and my work with international students.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I am fully qualified to teach English as a foreign language (CELTA), and I have lengthy experience of this in the UK and overseas.
I am a fluent French Speaker, having studied French up to degree level, and I have also worked and studied in France. I have a Masters degree in Chinese, and I have also worked in a China. I am able to tutor Spanish up to GCSE.

- How much do you charge?

All lessons are £30/h, but discounted rates can be arranged for longer lessons. There will be a small additional fee of no more than £4 for lessons which require me to travel further afield across London.

- Where do you teach?

I am located in Camden, and I am prepared to teach across all of London. I am always prepared to travel to students' homes, or meet in local establishments such as cafes. I can tutor at my own home during Monday-Friday working hours when I can provide a quiet environment conducive to studying.

- When are you available?

I am available Monday-Friday until 7pm. Weekend's may be arranged if there are any problems with weekday tutoring.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am qualified to teach anyone of any age who is seeking to learn English as a foreign language, French, Mandarin Chinese or Spanish. As mentioned above, I am fully qualified to teach EFL, I have degree level French and Mandarin Chinese, and advanced Spanish. I can teach absolute beginners in all of these languages, and no previous experience is required.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can teach students studying for IELTS exams or all exams of a similar calibre.
I have experience of tutoring French, Mandarin and Spanish for GCSE, and French for A level.
I can also assist in French at degree level.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I am always happy to tutor via Skype if the tutor requires. I have all of the facilities to ensure that this runs smoothly.
I can receive and check written work via email, and I can also send written assignments to students if they require more resources.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I own a great collection of resources of all different types, which I will offer to students in order to allow them to engage with their French learning, and approach it at a manageable rate, ranging from text books to films, novels and magazines.
