About Mahfuj

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have worked with young people from ages, six (Year 1) to 17 (Year 13). This has been through work experience at schools and practical workshops I have run for students.

These practical workshops were held with South East Physics Network (SEPNet). We do practical experiments with the children to surprise them with novel ideas that you can do around the house. These experiments reveal various principles of Physics that make science appear more fun and exciting to the students. We also allow children to carry out stimulating experiments that often are not feasible at secondary school level but are used as an incentive to encourage children to study Physics at a higher level.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I am currently studying Physics at the University of Surrey in 2nd Year. I have been taught by Professor Jim Al-Khalili who is a renowned Nuclear Physicist and known for his documentaries (most recently Order and Disorder) which regularly appear on TV.
I have also been taught by Professor Joseph Keddie who has written popular academic books and Professor Patrick Regan who is involved in ground-breaking research in Nuclear Physics in the USA.

Additionally I have been on many work experience placements within engineering and Physics which have shown me how to apply Physics knowledge within a working environment.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am a member of the Institute of Physics.

About the lesson

I am a Physics student at the University of Surrey in 2nd Year. With a passion for teaching Physics I hope to engage students and help the subject shine through so that in turn they are determined to learn more and do well in their education.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Physics and Mathematics at various levels, starting from KS3 (Year 7) up to A-Level (Year 13). I can modify my lessons to stick to the specifications, depending on the Exam Board.

BSc (Hons) Physics - University of Surrey (2011 – 2015) (1 Year in Professional Training)
3 A-Levels Maths B, Physics B, Biology B

- How much do you charge?

£15/hour: KS3 (11-14)
£20/hour: KS4 (15-16), AS-Levels (16+), A-Levels (17+)

£10 for first/trial session. I am open to parents observing my teaching.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at the student's house or another convenient location. Unfortunately I cannot tutor at my residence as it is not functional. I can travel to any neighbouring towns within approximately a 5 mile radius of the postcode KT9, i.e. Chessington, Tolworth, Surbiton, Epsom & Ewell, Kingston and New Malden etc...
I also teach in Guildford areas, local to the University of Surrey.

- When are you available?

Term Time:
Evenings: Friday.
All Day: Saturday and Sunday.

School Holiday:
All Day: Monday - Sunday

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach from KS3 (Year 7) up to A-Level (Year 13).

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students for the following qualifications: 11+, 13+, GCSEs, AS-Levels and A-Levels.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Although I do not provide online tutoring, if the student requires any help throughout the week with homework, past papers or general advice I am happy to help. I am more than happy to help the student via Skype, Call or Email etcâ€¦

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Being 20 years of age, I still remember all the things that may be going on in your life while at school. I know it can be hard juggling everything at the same, but if you manage your time properly and focus on your priorities then you can make a huge impact on your studies and essentially your future.
