I want to tailor my teaching to your needs and preferences. This means that I rely on my students to communicate to me what they hope to get out of our lessons. I will also be attentive to how our lessons play out, and adjust my methods accordingly. I am patient and analytical, and I hope to provide my students with ample material that they can study outside of class.
Let's chat before our first session, and I will do my best to prepare a suitable lesson with your goals in mind.
I have been a tutor and instructor in various capacities since I've been in secondary school. A computer science contest team I coached when I was 18 achieved the best results at the national olympiad in the history of my secondary school. At university, a professor employed me as an essay tutor for her seminar, and I provided each of 16 students with individualized attention and feedback. I find individualized tutoring very gratifying. I like the challenge of tailoring to the student's needs, and also the feeling of helping people achieve their goals.
On the other hand, I am also a bit of a language and linguistics fanatic. At university I studied literatures in both English and Chinese (Mandarin). I am sensitive to the context of language use, and additionally can provide some linguistic perspective on the grammatical subtleties of Chinese.
Lastly, I grew up in a bilingual environment, which means I've always been immersed in a context that compels me to translate and juggle English and Chinese. I've had a lot of practice code-switching, which means I am aware of the differences between English and Chinese, and can hopefully offer many pointers along your learning journey.
