About Oliver
I am a very experienced brass teacher, working for Hounslow Music Service as a learning leader. I have also worked with other London borough music services (Sutton and Wandsworth), I have been tuba tutor at the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, low brass tutor for Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra, National Children’s Orchestra and I have also taught at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. My specialism is tuba and low brass, however I teach all brass instruments from beginner to advanced levels and have experienced much success with all of my students. I use Trinity examinations as I think they offer a fantastic and more up to date syllabus for brass, but I also use ABRSM where preferred.
Being a full time member of the management for a music service, I am fully DBS checked and also registered on the update service to keep my DBS up to date. I can provide my update service number if required.
Lessons can either be taught at your home, or if you prefer I can offer online lessons via zoom.
Prior to becoming a full time teacher I worked for many years as a professional tuba player. I was principal tuba with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa and have worked with many major professional orchestras in the UK. I have performed all over the country and at major events such as the BBC Proms and played on many television soundtracks.
I also played with many of the top UK brass bands, winning major championships such as the British Open championships, European championship and brass in concert championships. I still do a small amount of professional performing and am on extra lists with every professional orchestra in the UK and Ireland.

Each pupil is unique and will have different needs, so I tailor my lessons to suit those pupils specific needs. I believe in a positive atmosphere and believe lessons should be fun and rewarding. I prepare all my pupils for examinations which are great for demonstrating progress, but never rush pupils into this until they are ready.
