About Rachel

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been graduated for 10 years and during this time taught piano, keyboard, voice and theory privately, academic music in a secondary school, and gained performing experience. I also work in printed music publishing, having edited over a hundred printed music publications and theory books (including 'How to Crack Music Theory') -- I am experienced in using Sibelius and other softwares. I have arranged music for schools, choirs and professional theatre companies.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes - I work in Islington schools and am cleared through this work.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied music at Oxford University.

I am an enthusiastic teacher with a passion for music and sharing this with other people. Lessons are fun and informal whilst offering a high quality tuition.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach piano, voice, music theory, musicianship and music as an academic subject. I am happy to teach any combination of these subjects as I think a broad musical education is beneficial.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied music at Oxford University and alongside this have my DipABRSM in Singing (after Grade 8 distinction and Grade 8 Piano).

- How much do you charge?

I charge £40/hour or £20 per half hour. I charge an extra £5/lesson for teaching at a pupil's own home (towards the travel time) and also for A-Level tuition.

- Where do you teach?

I can teach in pupil's homes or at my flat in Islington. I can teach theory in a coffee shop or a library area if this would work better. If I'm travelling to teach it needs to be in easy access of Islington by public transport or bicycle and fit in with my other commitments -- call me to discuss!

- When are you available?

I'm available at various times throughout the week and happy to book lessons flexibly from one to the next. Do call me to discuss.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and levels but particularly beginners to intermediate voice and piano, and music theory and academic music up to grade 8 / A-Level.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare students for GCSE Music, A-Level Music, and Associated Board examinations. I can prepare them for other exam boards as they wish.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I haven't taught online before but could happily do so via Skype for music theory only.
