About Ray

- What kind of experience do you have?

I taught my daughter trumpet while she was at primary school. She now has grade 2 and is in 2 bands and is at secondary school. I helped out at her primary school band for several years while I was Parent Governor specialising in music. I currently teach another primary school pupil.

I used to teach basic computing to beginners in adult education.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes

- Where and with whom did you train?

Started in the Primary school Brass band in the North East. I was then invited to join the secondary school orchestra.

I'm Ray Hart. I live in Bristol and teach basic cornet/trumpet to beginners.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Cornet or trumpet for beginners.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

Grade 3 trumpet. I have a BSc in Computing from University of the West of England and TEC 3 in Electrical engineering. I also have an FAETC1.

- How much do you charge?

10 pounds for 30 minutes. I don't recommend any longer per session at the beginning. There is a cornet that can be hired for a short time by any beginner on payment of a small fee and deposit.

- Where do you teach?

At home.

I can travel to the student if necessary but this will incur a small travel expense.

- When are you available?

4 - 5.30pm Monday to Thursday

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

School children, beginners. If someone older wants to learn fine. If you've got the interest and enthusiasm go for it.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

By Skype or if you have another method that may also be used providing suitable technology and software is available.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

It is enjoyable to play an instrument. Whenever I heard a trumpet being played whether classical or pop I loved it, still do. I gave it up at secondary school but took it up again when I was older. It was like riding a bike again after many years. It is a skill or talent which you carry with you through life and the basics can be transferred to any other instrument.
