About Douglas
I am not sure what to add here to what I have already said. Perhaps I should say this: When I was young, I found writing difficult. In the early years I did not do well in my own writing classes, so I know what it is like to start near the bottom and work upward. This experience has made me humble as an instructor. I understand that students need to proceed at their own pace. When it comes to learning, there is no one size fits all. This means that we need to find an approach that works for you. I cannot do this alone of course; I need to do it with you. With your help, I am confident we can put you on the road to success. Again, I would repeat: Good writing is a key to success in any field.

The first thing I do as a tutor is to listen to your needs. I want what I teach to be useful to you, to help you grow in confidence and ability. Good writing is a key to success in any field. It is not just about putting pen to paper; it is also about organizing your thoughts and articulating your ideas. We all learn how to write; none of us are born with the skill. What is more, writing -- good writing anyway -- is rewriting. Very few of us can pump out finished prose at a moment's notice, and none of us can do it without lots of practice. I can teach English at any level. I work as a writer and editor and I have published numerous essays and reviews. I also do writing related to job search, meaning here both resumes and cover letters. The last thing I would say is this: If you are not having fun as you learn, chances are you will not learn much at all, so I please emphasis on having fun too. Having fun is important to me. It is a core part of learning.
