I believe from experience that each person learns in their own way and teaching should be adapted to suit each individual. I have done this in my role as a Teaching Assistant when working with nursery age children and children up to 11 years old.
I have worked in a primary school for a year and learned a lot from being there. Most of all I learned no matter the age of the person/people you're working with we are all at different levels and more often than not it's the confidence of the people learning. I find sometimes just sitting with someone and letting them know what they're doing is good work and giving them little pointers is all the confidence they need but others need a more hands on approach.
I used to take group sessions of people who were struggling in the class and give them the help they needed. Some of these children would write a few lines maximum in lesson time but the difference in me sitting with them and giving them the help they needed they completed their work.
Experience: Apprentice Teaching Assistant
My role was to assist other members of staff
with setting up lessons and assisting them
to teach the children often taking my own
groups to teach unsupervised.
