About the lesson
I work closely with individual students to understand areas that need work. I then create an individual syllabus based on the students' need and ability and what they would like to achieve.
I explain the format of this syllabus and then create notes for students to work through. Each set of notes on a topic features example questions and practise questions. Once a topic is complete I then set a test that students can complete to check their understanding. Prior to this I encourage students to make their own notes about formulas or essential information.
I find that this allows students to take ownership of their learning and feel involved in the process.
I have been giving lessons over a period of around 8 years. Over that time I have taught around 5 students. This has been sporadic due to other work and time commitments, however this is something I am now looking to expand upon.
Throughout my time as a tutor I have had many success stories. I have had young students who were struggling in the classroom who now are active members as they understand better what is going on. I also assisted one student to gain her GCSE maths at grade A, where she was previously predicted a C.
Finally I had one student who needed to pass a mathematics exam to gain entry to an American Post Graduate degree. She had not studied maths in over 10 years and was struggling to grasp the concepts. Not only did she pass and secure her Post Graduate placement, she also scored in the top 20% which made her eligible for funding. This was a great success.

I can also provide online distance teaching via messenger/email. This can be done at the reduced rate of £12 per hour and involves sending notes and questions back and forth for completing and marking.
