What Is The Overall Format For Your SPM Prinsip Perakaunan Paper 2?

There are 2 sections in your SPM Accounting Paper 2. The duration of this whole paper is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Section A [Full marks: 60 marks]

This section has 3 questions in total.

Question 1 consists of 10 marks. You are advised to spend around 15 minutes on this question.

Under Question 1, there will be many sub-questions on simple definitions/characteristics of various accounting topics ranging from 2 marks to 3 marks.

On the other hand, question 2 and question 3 each consist of 25 marks respectively. It is best to spend approximately 37 minutes on each question.

For these two questions, students will be given two different business case studies and you will be asked to prepare the relevant financial documents based on the given information such as:

  • Akaun Perdagangan dan Untung Rugi
  • Akaun Pengasingan Untung Rugi
  • Penyata Kedudukan Kewangan
  • Penyata Pendapatan Perkongsian
  • Penyata Penyesuaian Bank and a few more

Section B [Full marks: 40 marks]

For this section, candidates are required to answer 2 out of 3 question options. Each question consists of 20 marks.

You will need to write down your final answers with the provided template of the financial document that will be given during the examination.

Sample questions:

  • (a) Anda dikehendaki menyediakan Penyata Belanjawan Tunai bagi tiga bulan berakhir 12 Jun 2020.

    i. Penyata Mengira Modal pada 12 Jun 2020  [7 marks]
ii. Penyata Mengira Untung Rugi bagi tahun berakhir 12 Jun 2020 [3 marks]

For instance, in the case of sample question (a), you will have to present your answers in the format of Penyata Belanjawan Tunai.

Remember to read the questions thoroughly and take note of the diagrams, pictures and additional information (Maklumat Tambahan) so that you won't miss out on the final calculation of the account.  Also, the suggested duration you should spend in Section B is 30 minutes per question.

How To Score Well In Section A For Your SPM Prinsip Perakaunan Paper 2?

Let's look at some tips that you can apply to ace Section A of this paper.

a) Master the definition and characteristics of core Accounting concepts

As mentioned earlier, Question 1 usually will ask direct questions on various Accounting concepts' definitions and characteristics.

It can be super easy to score full marks for these questions once you have successfully understood and memorised the key points of the concepts.

b) Provide simple tabulation and accurate interpretation based on the given financial documents

For questions 2 and 3, you will come across questions that require you to interpret and tabulate simpler financial documents. Be sure to check the allocated marks for each sub-question so that you do not spend too much time on one question.

[Sample question] Based on Business X. Anda dikehendaki menyediakan:

  • Akaun Modal pekongsi (beruangan) [6 marks]
  • Akaun Realisasi [6 marks]
  • Akaun Bank  [4 marks]

For the above questions, you only need to present your final answers in simple table forms where both the debit and credit sections of the requested accounts are equally balanced.

What Should You Pay Attention When Answering Long Structured Questions (Section B) in Paper 2?

Next, let's move on to review the ways to score well for the longer questions in Section B of your SPM Prinsip Perakaunan Paper 2.

a) Correctly recognize the right format and features of the requested financial documents

You can be asked anything in this section so there's no shortcut. You have to be very familiar with the complete format of ALL the financial documents that you will learn during your Form 4 and Form 5 Accounting syllabus.

Furthermore, you also need to know the difference and features of financial documents for sole proprietorships (milikan tunggal), clubs and societies (perakaunan untuk kelab dan persatuan), limited companies (syarikat berhad) and others.

In the long run, this will enable you to remember the purpose and significance of each financial document not only during exams and be a great help in the future when you come across real-life examples while working in a business-related field.

b) Systematically organize the debit and credit components of the given case studies during the final tabulation

We are pretty sure you can relate to the frustration when you just can't seem to balance both sides of the account while answering a question, especially when you think you have reached the final stage.

You then have to look back at the questions and given tables to check what have you missed or what you have misplaced in the debit or credit section of your final account tabulation of the financial document.

To prevent this unnecessary panic during your actual exam, it's best to allocate some time to systematically list down the debit and credit components of the given information as you are drafting your answer.

Having said that, this also means you have to be 100% clear on these Accounting concepts before you sit for the exams.

We highly recommend you to find an amazing Accounting private tutor via Supeprof!

Connecting accounting concepts with their significance and format

After mastering the basic concepts, it's now time to take it to the next level. We can't emphasize how important it is to remember the format of various financial documents that are in your SPM Accounting syllabus!

However, you should not memorize them blindly but make sure you truly understand why the format is such, or why the concepts are used in different business settings. This is helpful for both your Paper 1 and Paper 2!

For instance, when you are preparing a Penyata Kedudukan Kewangan, you have to make sure all the given figures are categorized according to the following components during your final answer.
