Estimated Rates for French Lessons

There are many options for you to learn French in Malaysia but the cost can vary depending on several factors:

Language Proficiency

When estimating the cost of learning a new language, it is important to remember your end goal. What level of proficiency are you aiming for?

Do you want to learn how to converse and understand the basics of French in order to have a smooth trip during a holiday? Or are you looking to complete a certificate course like DELF to validate you French proficiency?

It can be anywhere in between as well, this depends on your personal goals. If you are looking to learn only the basics, the cost will be lower. If you aim to be fully proficient in French, the cost will definitely be higher.

Duration of the Course

How long does it take to learn a new language? The answer to this question varies for each person. This depends on how much time you have to invest in learning French? Did you know some basic French before starting classes due to exposure to French speaking people?

There are many different duration options for French language courses. Some are tailored for 12 weeks while others for 12 months. There are also some who may opt for classes with no set duration and depend on their progress to determine the duration.

The cost for a set duration of time is fixed. The longer the duration, the higher the cost. For the flexible duration classes, the cost will depend on how long it takes you to master the language.

Online Class vs Classroom Based Learning

The traditional classroom learning experience provides an interactive learning environment where teachers are able to connect with their students better. The cost of learning from physical classes tends to be higher compared to online as you have to take into account the fee to maintain the classroom such as electricity and rent. Even if you have the teacher coming to your house to teach you, the travelling expenses is a cost to be accounted for.

For online classes, some  are live and while others are self-paced sessions that you complete on your own. Live classes will cost more compared to self-paced sessions as you have the opportunity to get feedback from your teacher during class.

Private Lessons vs Group Lessons

The cost of the lessons will vary depending on the size of the class. The smaller the size, the higher the cost. This is because with a small number of students in class, the teacher or tutor is able to give you more attention and guide you better.

With private lessons, you have the teacher’s undivided attention and can have the whole course tailored to accommodate you. Therefore, the cost is higher. Group lessons cost is lower and depends on the actual number of students in the class. A small group class will cost more compared to a bigger group.

Qualifications & Teaching Experience

The teacher’s education qualifications and experience will impact the cost of the classes as well. You pay more for teachers with higher qualifications and experience as this will reflect their quality.

The teacher’s quality is positively associated with being able to meet students needs as they are able to relate to the students better and help them to learn and achieve academic success. If you looking for a French language teacher, check out Tips to Find the Right French Tutor for You
