According to the STPM Tamil format for 2024, these are the components that you will be tested on when sitting for your papers:
STPM Tamil Term 1 Paper
In this written examination, Section A tests your reading and comprehension abilities in the Tamil language. After that, you will answer two questions on Tamil morphology in Section B. Section C tests your understanding of the Tamil poems you have already learned in Term 1. Finally, Section D covers the topics related to the history and development of Tamil language and literature.
STPM Tamil Term 2 Paper
Your Term 2 paper is also a written examination. In Section A, your critical thinking skills will be tested in the form of writing a Tamil language essay. Then in Section B, you will be answering short-form questions on Tamil grammar, before moving on to Section C which looks at classic and epic Tamil literature. Section D addresses Antimakalam, the novel that you have read in Term 2.
STPM Tamil Term 3 Paper
Your final paper is also a written examination, which begins with choosing one of the three essay questions in Section A. You need to be ready to write about either a general or specific-format essay. In Section B, you will answer questions on medieval and ethical Tamil literature. Finally, Section C tests your understanding of the short stories you've learned in this term.
How are your STPM Tamil papers graded?
Now that you know what will be covered in your STPM Tamil textbook and papers, we can study the marking scheme of STPM Tamil format. Note that there are different marks for the sections of the paper according to each Form 6 term, but they all contribute the same weightage of marks (33.33%) to your final examination result (100%).

Section A: Answer all five structured questions on reading and comprehension. (30 marks)

Section D: Answer one of two structured questions OR one essay question on your Tamil novel. (25 marks)
912/3 Bahasa Tamil 3
Section A: Answer one of three essay questions. The essay length should be between 450 to 500 words. (50 marks)
Section B: Answer one of two structured questions OR one essay question on medieval and ethical Tamil literature. (25 marks)
Section C: Answer one of two structured questions OR one essay question on Tamil short stories. (25 marks)
Knowledge of your Tamil literature - the novels, short stories and poems you will be learning about in your STPM Tamil syllabus - is vital to score well in your exams. What do your STPM Tamil scores mean?
At this point, you may be wondering what scoring an A in your STPM Tamil means compared to getting a B+. According to the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC), both the grades A and B+ represent a Full Pass in your STPM Tamil coursework.

If you want to obtain a Full Pass in your STPM Tamil coursework, what should your target score be for each paper?
Say you want to get a minimum grade of B+ in your overall STPM Tamil final result.
Targeted Subject Grade Point/Maximum Subject Grade Point x 100% = Minimum Marks To Be Achieved
In other words, you can use the formula above to calculate the average minimum marks you should score for each paper. Following the formula, to get a B+ minimum grade:
3.33/4.00 x 100% = 83.25 marks
So you should try to accumulate an average of 84 marks in each STPM Tamil paper to achieve your desired B+ grade.
