Websites/ Blogs You Should Follow For Notes, Past Year Papers, Quiz

It is no secret that more students in Malaysia are turning to online resources to enhance their understanding of their field of study regardless of their learning level.

As compared to the traditional classroom setting, students and even educators are gradually embracing the benefits of online learning resources.

First of all, they can access information anytime and anywhere they want as long as they have access to the Internet. Secondly, it is also more cost-effective in the long run. They hardly need to travel for physical lessons or tuition.

This is particularly evident during the course of the pandemic when schools were not open and students had no choice but to resort to online learning.

Not only that, students also experience a shift in learning as they are now totally in charge of their learning pace. They have more control over what resources they want to access and the time spent on different subjects for their revision.

Last but not least, they can also access and review a wide range of learning resources online. Instead of relying on one resource, they can integrate a variety of learning resources and have more flexibility as they arrange their learning schedule.

Having said that, here are three websites that you can apply as you prepare for your STPM Physics papers.

1.Madam Rosmaya (Blog)

Our first recommendation is an academic blog that is set up by an experienced Physics tutor, Madam Rosmaya, who is currently teaching STPM Physics at SMJK Yu Hua in Kajang.

On her blog, you can find a series of videos, tutorials, question banks, quizzes and even a breakdown of the STPM Physics syllabus for FREE!

You can rest assured that all the information and resources are up to date and constantly updated by Madam Rosmaya. For instance, you can find many state trial papers under the question banks section.

Some papers that were uploaded include trial papers from Kelantan, SMK Datuk Mansor (Negeri Sembilan), SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian (Penang), SMK Taman Forest Height (Negeri Sembilan), and others.

2. Keterehsky (Blog)

Our second recommendation is also a blog by a dedicated Physics teacher, Cikgu Amin.

In this blog, you can find many free and comprehensive resources on SPM Physics, STPM Physics and astronomy.

Cikgu Amin offers the complete revision notes for all 25 Physics chapters throughout all three semesters and even the format for the coursework assessment and Physics experiments.

3. Quizlet (Studying Tool)

Apart from blogs, you can also go to Quizlet to test your understanding of certain Physics topics in an interesting manner.

Quizlet is essentially a flashcard-based studying tool that you can utilise to memorise certain concepts alongside their definitions. You can flip the online flashcard to learn and memorise the keywords.

You can find many quizzes that were set up based on the topics STPM Physics Semester 1, Semester 2 and Semester 3.

Some examples include:

  • Principle of conversation of energy --> Energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be transformed from one another to another.
  • Newton's First Law--> A body will remain at rest or move along a straight line with constant speed unless it's acted upon by force.

It's totally free to sign up so make sure you don't miss out on this fun way to study this subject!

Remember to have a look at the subject syllabus and latest examination structure for your STPM Physics papers.

Engaging With YouTube Channels And Tutorials

Another online learning resource that we cannot miss out on is certainly YouTube channels.

Here are three YouTube channels that you can subscribe to enhance your STPM Physics revision journey.

1. MT Academy

Under this channel, you can find a series of playlists of STPM Physics (lecture videos) from Term 1 to Term 3.

Not only that, you can also find a variety of past year question discussions and watch them anytime you like.

2. Madam Rosmaya

Don't rub your eyes. Yes, it's the same Physics teacher from the above blog.

Madam Rosmaya also has a YouTube channel for learners who prefer to learn STPM Physics through the audiovisual method.

3. Crash Course Physics

If you prefer a bite-sized and colourful learning approach to master Physics topics, Crash Course Physics should be your go-to YouTube channel!

It is slightly different from the first two YouTube channels as it takes a more engaging learning approach that is less examination-oriented. Instead, it focuses more on explaining fundamental Physics topics such as Newton's Laws. Work, Energy and Power, Magnetism, Thermodynamics and many more.

Master these practical tips to take your STPM Physics revision to the next level.

Making The Best Of STPM Physics Examination Report

The STPM Physics Examination Report is released annually by the Malaysian Examination Council to help students understand the overall answering trend of the papers.

Apart from providing the correct answers for each tested section of the paper, the report also breaks down where candidates tend to make mistakes and where they tend to score for each question.

For Section A (multiple choice questions), students will be given an overview of all the correct answers and a percentage of "correct" rate for the questions.

On the other hand, for Sections B and C (structured and essay questions), the report will first give a general comment on the overall performance before moving on to individual questions.

For each individual question, the examiner will provide specific and concise comments on the right and wrong answers. They will also explain why some students did not receive full marks for their final answers.

Here's one example: Some candidates did not convert the value of the height of the track into unit metre in their calculations.

The examiners will also give a comparison between a good and average answer among the candidates.

For instance, let's say it revolves around a question on heat transfer by radiation.

A sample comment:
Most candidates were able to state that no medium is required to transfer heat and energy transfer is at the speed of light. However, there were several candidates who answered that heat is transferred only in a vacuum, and this is a wrong fact as heat can be transferred through a medium also.

That said, we highly recommend you do the past year's questions first and compare your final answers with the final answers and explanations listed in the examination report.

Important tip: Make sure you get the right year of the report though!

As you go through the individual questions and comments, you'll get a better idea of what the examiners are looking for aka the dos and don'ts.

In other words, the more you read through the reports, the more you'll master the grading criteria of your STPM Physics papers in no time.
