KSSM Bahasa Tamil Curriculum

The present Bahasa Tamil curriculum is derived from the Secondary School Standard Curriculum (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah - KSSM) which was gradually introduced since 2017. The initial group of students sat for the SPM exam following this updated syllabus in 2021.

The KSSM curriculum is a continuation of the KSSR for primary school in accordance with the Malaysian Education Promotion Program. In addition to further enriching the Tamil language skills acquired in the primary school, the curriculum emphasizes the development of balance in the cognitive, spiritual, physical and mental aspects of the students in accordance with the national philosophy of education.

The Tamil language curriculum for secondary school is aimed at improving social contact, obtaining and handling information properly and acquiring good knowledge of Tamil required for reading and inferring a variety of texts. Moreover, it enables the effective expression of thoughts and ideas with rational thinking and the preservation of the Tamil language.

By the end of secondary school, students who learn Tamil should be able to understand what is heard and to evaluate the concepts contained in them. They should also demonstrate the ability to communicate using good language and express ideas effectively with research and creative thinking.
