Yes, there is! The government has come up with the Sekolah Seni Malaysia (SSeM). It is a formal educational institution that provides facilities to polish and cultivate the potential and talents of the generation of students to actively and creatively engage in arts and cultural activities of the country.

The establishment of SSeM is in line with the MOE's efforts to provide equal access to international quality education by expanding access and improving the quality of education. It is in line with efforts to strengthen the national education system more comprehensively and does not revolve around academics alone.

Sekolah Seni Malaysia (SSeM) is established to provide opportunities and space for young Malaysians to work in the arts. Student recruitment is open to all students of government schools and government-aided schools from across the country. Student intake is only for Form 1.

Students can apply for SSeM through the e-SSeM System. Applicants can check-in using the UPSR registration number and fill in all the information online at the Sekolah Seni Malaysia website.

Students who have applied online will be called to attend Sesi Serlahan Seni (SSS). Sesi Serlahan Seni is an audition session to assess students’ talents.

  • Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor (SSeMJ)
  • Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak (SSeMS)

Unfortunately, there are no specific courses or schools conducted by the government dedicated to the dance domain for primary school students. However, most primary schools have their performance art club where students will be exposed to various dance genres. The students are encouraged to learn and practise different types of dance moves to enter competitions.
