About Pihu
Hello! I am Pihu, an international student from Mumbai, India, currently in my second year of studying medicine (MBChB) at the University of Bristol. From supporting underprivileged children learn English when I was back home in Year 9 to assisting KS3/GCSE students with English and Maths while at university, I have always been deeply interested in teaching. My teaching experience over the past years has helped me develop my teaching ability, understand how to cater to students' individual needs and explore ways to make learning as engaging as possible!
As an IB Diploma graduate, I have had experience with learning 6 varied subjects—Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, English, Maths and French—in depth for 2 years and scored an A* equivalent in 5 out of 6 subjects. My experience as a student learning these diverse subjects is largely what makes me equipped to teach a variety of subjects and students. I am determined to carry forward what worked for me as a student and use my takeaways to help other students fall in love with learning.
Effective communication and empathy are central to my approach as a tutor. I have been fortunate enough to be in classrooms that make me beyond eager to learn and I hope to foster that same environment for students through open discussions, honest feedback, and encouragement of curiosity.

As a tutor, my approach to teaching is centred around the student and their preferred method of learning—constant feedback and open communication will be critical for successful lessons. Although lessons will be online, I will prioritise student engagement through questions, discussions and collaborative on-screen annotation when appropriate. The typical lesson will last 1 hour and can be centred around any GCSE/A-level/IB biology topic that the student deems necessary. I have been regularly tutoring students from various years, ranging from Year 4 to Year 10, for close to 2 years now and have hence grown in my teaching ability during this period. Although my past tutoring experience is largely in English, Maths and 11+ exam preparation, I am confident in my ability to support students in understanding biological topics, given my completion of higher-level IB Biology with a full score (7/7 or A* equivalent) and current role as a 2nd-year medical student at the prestigious Bristol Medical School.
