About Kayleigh
Hello! My name is Kayleigh, and I am currently a 4th year Education student at Nelson Mandela University. I have a passion for teaching Afrikaans and have been tutoring grade 4 to 7 learners in it since 2021. Since I was little, I always used to play with my toys and pretend that I was a teacher. Turns out, it stuck with me! I love seeing the look in my learners' eyes when they understand something they thought was too difficult for them! That's what drives me: making my learners excited to learn and proud of their achievements.

I have a very learner-centered approach to teaching. I believe every learner is capable of reaching their full potential if one utilizes their unique learning style. I have a relaxed teaching style and am very welcoming to learners of all backgrounds and varieties. I use a variety of ways to teach, including using games.
What makes me stand out from other teachers, is my passion for listening to my learners’ concerns and needs. At the beginning of every lesson, I try to catch up with my learners to determine the direction of my lesson. If my learners are having an off-day, I try my best to cheer them up by making the lesson as engaging and interesting as possible!
My teaching style can best be described as interactive, supportive, and transparent. I encourage my learners to ask questions and make mistakes, as this is the best way that we learn. I am also still learning, as we all are, and encourage my learners to do the same. I aim to make my lessons memorable and (where possible) fun!
I mainly teach in Afrikaans but can also teach in English. When teaching my lessons, I expect from my learners to follow the following rules, which I follow with them:
1. Ask questions when you are unsure! There is no such thing as a dumb question.
2. I will treat you with respect, so I expect the same from your side.
3. Just as I listen to what you have to say, I expect you to listen to what I have to say.
4. If you don’t understand something – interrupt me! We don’t want you to fall too far behind.
5. Be prepared! If I asked you to do an activity, please be sure to have it completed when we have our next lesson.
6. Be on time! We all make mistakes sometimes, but if I am taking time out of my day to spend it helping you, it’s only fair that you be punctual and responsible.
I promise I am not a strict, grumpy teacher! I love teaching all my learners, but I only ask a few things in return. Our lessons will be very enjoyable if the teacher and the learner can adhere to these rules.

Amazing personality and a great teacher. Always smiling, and never sees any project as too hard. You just can't go wrong with her.
Kayleigh's passions have always been with two things, teaching and languages. Tutoring English is therefore right up her ally. Personally, I have watched students (who struggled previously) reach new academic heights with her by their side, helping them in their endeavors. She makes learning fun and exciting. She is patient, friendly, kind, funny and I think she is an asset to any student in need of a tutor.
