About Tom

I am a recently qualified, award-winning UK Chartered Architect, (MARch, PGDipArch, RIBA, RIAS), with 6+ years' experience in practice, as a student and entering design competitions. I have prior university tutoring experience and have been DBS checked. I currently work for an AJ100 practice in Edinburgh, working on large-scale residential, hotel, office, industrial and distillery projects throughout the UK. Personal areas of focus and research include design for disassembly and participatory design. I specialise in Revit and BIM requirements from conceptual design through artistic representation to construction detailing and also offer a specialist Revit tutoring programme. Outside of architecture, my hobbies include photography and photo-collaging, running and hiking.

About the lesson

I provide tailored lessons to help students with their architectural education or careers. Please ask what you are looking for in the first instance and we can discuss the best approach for you. Topics may include, (but are not limited to): - Reviews of your design work and portfolios, providing clear ideas, strategies and feedback to help you drive your projects' narratives, (similar to tutor sessions). - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Revit and AutoCAD tutorials, either individually looking at specific elements or how to use all of them for an effective workflow and polished drawings. - Construction detailing help and reviews for technology modules including providing example details and advice on resources to use going forward. - Drawing and representation lessons and reviews, focusing on how your visual style can quickly convey key ideas. - CV, personal statement and portfolio reviews and guidance. ....and more - just ask! Lessons will typically be an hour long but I am flexible to individual needs and schedule requirements.

To be honest, I was really struggling with my degree and wanted to have some extra tutoring and Tom clearly knows what he's talking about; now I am completely fine in regards to knowledge in my degree. Also, he is very friendly & likeable, so you won't feel like you're talking to a robot!

Having a tutor truly knowledgeable and passionate really helps engagement so even if the content is difficult it is easy and enjoyable to listen to.
