About Brenden

Brenden Rafferty is a Junior Clarinet Performance Major at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia. His teachers include the Principal Clarinetist of the Richmond Symphony, David Lemelin, and Juilliard-trained clarinetist Garrick Zoeter. In high school, Brenden succeeded in playing the clarinet at a high level including making All-District Band all 4 years, All-Virginia band his junior and senior year, and Senior regional orchestra his senior year. He has a wide array of musical experience playing in concert bands, pit orchestras, wind ensembles, and symphony orchestras. He also has soloing experience and is active in competing in competitions both at the state and national level.

About the lesson

Offers a well-rounded approach to learning the instrument including proper warm-up techniques, scales, and fundamentals that lead into learning clarinet repertoire. A typical lesson will start out with a warm-up and scales and then involve working on 1-2 pieces of music that either the student gives him or he gives the student. Lessons by Brenden are unique because they give the student a foundation for doing auditions, especially all-district and all-state auditions which have scale and etude requirements. Students also learn how to properly practice so that they can foster growth and not level out while finding their own unique sound. The primary target for lessons are middle school and high school aged students looking to get better at their instruments.
