About Bella
My guitar teaching is founded on curiosity, versatility, and long-term growth. I want my students to develop not only technical skill but also the curiosity to explore music on their own terms and the tools to grow continuously, even when they’re no longer in lessons. My lessons are dynamic and evolve with the student’s needs, always balanced between structure and spontaneity. We work on fundamentals such as picking technique, chord fluency, and fretboard navigation, and as soon as possible, I introduce creative exercises like melodic improvisation and rhythmic experimentation. Music theory is demystified through games, visuals, and songwriting applications. I teach students to hear and understand the harmonic movement within songs, empowering them to transcribe and even re-harmonize on their own. I explore a wide range of genres with students—from folk fingerpicking and indie textures to hard rock riffs and jazz improvisation—to help them discover their musical identity. I encourage exploration of effects, looping, and recording as creative tools rather than just technical extensions. We also dig into music history to understand how different playing styles evolved, and how guitarists responded to cultural moments through their music. I help students set personal goals and track their progress visually, creating a sense of achievement without unnecessary pressure. Every student leaves lessons not only with improved guitar skills but also with a toolkit for learning, creating, and connecting through music for life.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music should feel both attainable and infinite. I strive to demystify the guitar for each of my students by breaking down complex concepts into clear, digestible, and engaging parts while keeping the door open to lifelong exploration. My lessons prioritize three pillars: structured progression, personal relevance, and creative exploration. Structured progression means that I introduce new concepts in a logical sequence—starting with basic technique and gradually building to advanced applications—while ensuring foundational skills such as finger strength, scale fluency, tone control, and accurate chord transitions are established early. Personal relevance is key; students are more likely to stay motivated when working on music they care about, so I tailor every unit around their musical tastes, whether it’s metal, soul, pop-punk, lo-fi, funk, or cinematic scoring. I incorporate backing tracks, loopers, and playback tools to help them hear their own improvement and stay inspired. I weave music theory into our work through real songs and patterns, showing how melodies and chords interact emotionally, what makes a solo soar, or how a progression builds tension and release. I ensure they can hear these patterns through ear training exercises designed to strengthen interval recognition, chord identification, and rhythmic accuracy. I frequently use games, interactive call-and-response exercises, and on-the-spot improvisation to keep learning fun and alive. I also encourage journaling, recording, and even simple lyric-writing to help students reflect on their progress and build artistic identity. For those pursuing live performance or band dynamics, I guide them in ensemble playing, gear setup, EQ and tone shaping, and stage confidence. I’ve had students move on to lead community bands, write EPs, score films, or simply enjoy a deeper connection with their instrument. Regardless of where they’re headed, I see every student’s journey as valuable and unique, and my goal is to help them not only master the guitar but also become resilient, expressive, and independent musicians.
