About Richard
I hold a doctorate in cellular and molecular biology from Columbia University, but have a passion for science communication. I've taught and graduated multiple students in the formal university settings, and cherish it when they return to say thanks. While I have a specialization, science is ultimately all connected, and I hope to teach students to be inquisitive and critical enough to distinguish between valid and invalid scientific reasoning.

I've taught doctoral level classes, but I find that personalized instruction, where a concept can be connected to the individual's context is most effective. I am adept at bringing complicated concepts into more simple metaphors, and I believe that I have accomplished my task when the student is curious enough to keep learning even if I am not around.
