About Michelle

As a university student who has been passionate about Spanish and its literature since high school, I love to share with others my beautiful language. Not only as a passionate student but as a Latina immigrant who has a deep interest in advocating for diversity and representation of minorities in academia. I believe my experience giving workshops as a peer mentor for students register with accessibility services at my university together with my experience speaking Spanish and studying Spanish, has provided me strong foundations to be a tutor.

My experience writing Spanish literature, analyzing and comparing views, as well as raising my original critiques, is the result of previous work I did in high school for my Spanish High-Level Literature class fro the International Baccalaureate. As part of the IB diploma program, I had to write a final monograph (known as an Extended Essay in the IB) where I did an analysis of the existentialist traits in the main character of the novel El Túnel by Ernesto Sabato, based on the influence of Heidegger and Sartre’s existentialist ideas. I also gain more experience writing papers during my first year through my PHL103 and PHL113 courses.

For the past 2 years of completing my Bachelor of Psychology and Minor in Philosophy, I have learned about writing correct arguments and papers. This knowledge together with my experience giving workshops as a Peer Mentor has made me fall in love with teaching.

About the lesson

I try to make my lessons fun and highly interactive. Practice is key to learn a new language so I create activities to complete in class and small homework activities for students to strengthen their knowledge. I love literature and art, so I like to integrate Spanish stories, songs, artists, and podcasts into the materials I use.
