About Martin
I am Canadian and live in Ontario, but grew up in France and Germany and attended international schools with an American curriculum, taking Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. My M.A. and Ph.D. involved a combination of Canadian, American, French, and Indigenous history, but I am passionate about history in general. I speak English, French, and German, and have taught students from many countries whose first language is not English. As a high school teacher I led the History Club, Debating Club, Model United Nations, Equity Council, Gay-Straight Alliance/Pride, Chess Club, and Homework Club, which kept me rather busy after classes ended each day. My long experience means that I am skilled with helping students from age 14 to 25 with essays, projects, and test and exam preparation, and you will find me kind, patient, and approachable. I have rescued many a young person from failure and like to get all my students across the finish line!

I have a Ph.D. in history and a B.Ed. in history and English and have a lot of experience teaching university history courses from first to fourth year and high school history courses from Grade 10 to Grade 12. I can help university, college, and high school students with AP and IB history, world history, ancient history, medieval history, Renaissance history, modern history, the world wars, Canadian history, American history, Indigenous history / Native American history, European history, French history, British history, German history, Spanish history, colonial history, political history, military history, economic history, art history, geographical history, and the history of philosophy. My students have always found me kind, patient, approachable, and able to help with lessons, projects, essays, and studying for tests and exams. I will tailor my teaching to whatever you need to learn or do.
