About Otis

I’m a guitar teacher with over 5 years of experience and a background in Advanced Guitar Studies through a Graduate Certificate program. My passion lies in helping students sharpen their ears and deepen their musical intuition. I believe that advanced ear training is one of the most powerful tools a guitarist can develop. In my lessons, we focus on transcribing solos, recognizing chord progressions by ear, and even training towards perfect or relative pitch. I love guiding students through the process of hearing something once and knowing exactly how to play it. Whether it's a blues lick, a jazz run, or a pop melody, you'll learn to trust your ears as much as your fingers. My teaching is patient, clear, and tailored to each student’s learning style and goals. I’ve worked with players who want to become fluent improvisers, as well as those preparing for auditions and studio sessions. With the right exercises, consistency, and a bit of curiosity, anyone can unlock these skills. You don’t need a background in theory to start—we build it together, step by step. About the lesson

My guitar teaching approach combines practical skills with musical growth to help students become confident, well-rounded players. I focus on building solid technique while also teaching the hands-on knowledge every guitarist should have. Along with chords, rhythm, and song learning, I guide students through essential topics like guitar maintenance, string changing, and basic setup.

We work on how to keep your instrument in great shape and understand how different gear affects your sound. I explain the basics of guitar electronics, tone controls, and how to use effects pedals to shape your style. Whether you're leading worship, playing at home, or preparing for live performance, knowing your gear is just as important as knowing your chords.

For students who want to sing and play, I help build strong rhythm skills and song arrangements that fit your voice. We use real songs to practice transitions, dynamics, and expressive playing. I also give clear, simple steps for setting up your space and gear for smooth practice or performance.

You’ll learn how to play, sound great, and take care of your instrument—all in one approach. My goal is to make you confident on and off the stage. Let’s make music and master your sound together.
