About Omar
As a Canberra-based Indonesian Language Teacher, I hold a Post Graduate Qualification in TESOL and Teaching of Foreign Language. My past students have ranged from primary school to Australian Federal Government Employees or Diplomats embarking on short or long-term missions to Indonesia. I have been teaching Indonesian Language for the past 6 years with CIT Solutions and the UNSW - Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra, Australia. I have taught one-on-one Indonesian language classes online for six years, even before the pandemic. During this time, I have developed highly effective strategies for teaching the language. I use online platforms such as Zoom and Cisco Webex to deliver the classes, and I offer a standard curriculum for three levels of Indonesian Language Proficiency, which are commonly used in government departments such as Foreign Affairs and Trade, Defence and Home Affairs. However, I can customize the curriculum to suit the needs of each client. My teaching methods involve direct interaction with a native speaker - myself and another language informant guest. I provide two handbooks for each level and design interactive quizzes every day to help with vocabulary memorization. These quizzes consist of a mixture of texts, images and audio. I sometimes use online whiteboard-style learning as well. I expect my students to commit to doing homework, and I provide feedback on their work. To enhance the learning experience, we read and listen to authentic materials such as original newspapers, short movies/videos and audio. We also use online resources such as radio and iPod. I have a Quizlet Professional Account where I develop a learning portfolio for each student, and they have access to their folder for one year after finishing their studies. I also assist with reading and ask students to record their voices reading text, mimicking my audio recordings. If students are interested in music, we can record ourselves singing Indonesian songs with my play of the ukulele or guitar. I can also organize immersion activities such as Indonesian culinary cooking or visits to the Indonesian Embassy and Balai Bahasa or local language exchange groups around Canberra. Additionally, I can help students prepare for their language proficiency tests.

Omar is a brilliant Indonesian tutor. I was heading to Indonesia for a work trip and the foundations he was able to provide for me were exceptional. The most important thing he provides is a strong understanding of Indonesian cultures, which is essential to have as a beginner in Indonesian and first time traveller to Indonesia.
