About Keith

First Class honours BA in Irish Language and Celtic Civilisation, with a First Class Masters Degree in Contemporary Irish Language. Having received my Masters in Nua Ghaeilge from UCD in 2016, I quickly realised that I had an aptitude for teaching, having spent two years as a tutor at 3rd level. Teaching has always been my passion. Having taught at university level, I quickly understood the happiness it brought me and the satisfaction upskilling others leis an nGaeilge brought to me, too. Enabling others to realise their linguistic potential is something in which I take pride, and results from my previous students confirm my track record.

About the lesson

In contrast to the majority of Irish language tutors, I employ an approach whereby I break the language down into its grammatical components, thus allowing students to develop a structural understanding of the language. Language is very similar to Mathematics. I feel that every language has a 'formula' and with sufficient practice, students can learn to digest Irish syntax and grammar in bite-size pieces, which allows for long-term learning and retention.

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they can best meet your needs.

I offer lesson plans which can be tailored to each student and are retention-centric. I have found that the 'odd' lesson has no real impact therefore I always recommend a structured and laser-focused approach which has yielded tangible benefits for students previously. The initial lesson I facilitate is free of charge as I develop an understanding of a student’s needs, which allows me to develop bespoke learning plans that suit each student. I do not enter into learning plans for students with 'a few weeks to go' until the junior/leaving certificate. There is very little that can be accurately taught, and more importantly, retained within this time frame. Language acquisition takes time and practice.
