About Tessa
As a professional orchestral flutist with ample solo experience, I understand the different preparation methods needed for solo repertoire, orchestral excerpts, and auditions, as well as the baseline fundamentals needed for absolute beginners. Having been at every stage myself, I am well equipped to understand students' motivations and struggles. My students can expect me to be entirely dedicated to their growth and to be their best listener and advocate. I foster an environment that is fun and meets the student exactly where they are!

Music is a powerful medium for personal growth and expression, regardless of one’s age or ability level. As a teacher, my fundamental goal is to introduce the love of music as a tool to unlock these gifts that it offers us. My teaching method reflects an attitude of kindness while still challenging the student at all times. You can expect to be pushed to your creative limits in a manner that's supportive. Teaching the stylistic foundations of music is crucial, and there are infinite ways to express a piece of music within that foundation. The work I'll do with you will secure bulletproof fundamentals of playing as well as a relentless pursuit of beauty through the details. This mindset will set you up for a self-sufficient professional or recreational life in music. Technical routines, etudes, and varieties of solo and ensemble repertoire create a well-balanced diet for any musician. You and I will work together to select pieces for each stage of development that are meant to teach crucial musical lessons along your way. When you encounter a challenge, this is met with open arms as a learning opportunity. If you're thinking for even one second about taking up the flute, hesitate no further!
