About Karuna

Hello! I’m a professional artist and illustrator with over 5 years of experience in teaching drawing and painting to students across the globe. I specialize in portrait drawing, watercolor painting, character design, and children’s book illustration.

Art has always been my passion, and I’ve had the joy of teaching over 200 students, ranging from young children to adults, helping each one discover their creative confidence. My teaching style is personalized, friendly, and structured, ensuring every student gets the right balance of technique and imagination.

Whether you're just starting your art journey or looking to sharpen specific skills like figure drawing, watercolor techniques, or digital illustration, my classes are tailored to your goals and learning style. I provide step-by-step guidance, fun exercises, and after-class notes to help you keep improving even between lessons.

I give my students unique after-class notes designed according to their progress. I teach on online platforms. DEMO SESSIONS ARE AVAILABLE.

Perfect! Karuna is a good teacher and a very good artist. She is polite, timely and professional. Her grasp of art fundamentals is quite solid and she attempts to teach the technicalities even to small kids, which unsurprisingly takes a ton of patience, but she has a high bar. A lot of teachers are either too soft with kids or too strict, as a result of which they don't learn much new and don't leave their comfort zone. Karuna is right in the middle and will get more effective with more experience but her approach of pushing the kid till they meet a bar vs lowering the bar is great if you persist with it

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
Drawing human portraits was my childhood dream. I always tried to make human-based characters, as it attracts me the most when drawing or painting. I learned my lessons by practicing and discovering new things from my mentors and the internet. I focus on learning drawing fundamentals and anything can be made using those fundamentals. It works for me and it works for everyone as well. I like to work using versatile mediums and teach my students the same skills.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
I started teaching my friends about various subjects and discovered through it that I explained things very well. I then started teaching professionally and my students are the biggest motivation for me. Teaching has also served me well in terms of learning. I grow as an artist whenever I teach.
How does your work help society?
Learning art helps in brain development through critical and creative thinking. What I teach, helps in understanding how things are made using drawing, which is the best way to learn with application and then creation. It helps society especially the younger generation learn practical and creative things instead of only theoretical things.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
My role model is Stan Prokopenko. He is a great teacher.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
I enjoy dancing, exercising, playing games, and cooking in my free time.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
There was something beautiful that my student did for me. She made a beautiful card and sent a lovely gift when my baby was born. I was not expecting that but she treated me like a family. It was heart-melting.
