• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My passion for the sciences, including physics, chemistry, and biology, has been ingrained in me since I was young. I was always curious about how the world works, and these subjects provided me with the tools to explore and understand the natural phenomena around me. As for private tutoring, it became apparent during my college years that I had a knack for explaining complex scientific concepts in a way that resonated with my peers. Witnessing their academic growth and the satisfaction they derived from mastering challenging topics inspired me to pursue tutoring as a profession.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  Physics, chemistry, and biology each offer a unique perspective on the world, and I enjoy delving into all three subjects with my students. In physics, I relish discussing the fundamental principles that govern the universe, from Newton's laws to quantum mechanics. Chemistry allows for exploration on a molecular level, from chemical reactions to the structure of atoms and molecules. Biology, on the other hand, provides insight into the intricate systems of life, from cellular biology to ecosystems and beyond. While I find all aspects of these subjects fascinating, I sometimes encounter challenges in teaching abstract concepts in physics and complex biochemical processes in biology.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Throughout my academic journey, I've been fortunate to encounter several inspiring teachers who have shaped my approach to education. One physics teacher by the name of Sayed, in particular, stands out for his passion for the subject and his ability to make seemingly daunting topics accessible and engaging. His enthusiasm for physics ignited a similar passion within me, motivating me to pursue further studies in the field and ultimately become a tutor myself.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  The qualities required to be a good tutor in the sciences are similar to those in mathematics: patience, empathy, and effective communication skills. In addition to these, a solid understanding of the subject matter and the ability to simplify complex concepts are essential. A good tutor should also foster critical thinking skills and encourage curiosity, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the material rather than simply memorizing facts

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  One memorable anecdote from my school days involves a chemistry experiment gone awry. During a lab session, we were conducting a reaction that produced a colorful precipitate. However, due to a miscalculation in the quantities of reactants, the reaction became exothermic and started fizzing uncontrollably. While it was initially chaotic, our teacher turned it into a valuable learning experience, emphasizing the importance of precise measurements and careful observation in scientific experimentation.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  One of the main challenges in teaching the sciences is bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Many concepts in physics, chemistry, and biology can seem abstract or disconnected from everyday experiences, making it difficult for students to grasp their significance. As a tutor, I strive to provide real-world examples and hands-on activities to illustrate key concepts and demonstrate their relevance in students' lives.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My passion lies in both teaching and the sciences themselves. I find immense satisfaction in helping students unlock their potential and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Whether it's witnessing a student's "lightbulb moment" as they grasp a difficult concept or guiding them through a challenging experiment, I am constantly inspired by the joy of learning. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy conducting experiments, exploring nature, and keeping up with the latest advancements in scientific research.
