About Edward
I'm a lifelong musician with 5+ years of experience playing and organizing within the NYC DIY and experimental scene. My whole musical life, I've explored music as a means of self-expression. Born and raised in Nashville, TN, I learned the value of treating music as a dedicated craft, but when I moved to NYC, I became immersed in the creative spirit of the city and learned to take more risks in music. I've produced for numerous artists in the past, as well as under my own names Law Office, George Went Hensley, and Ted Noser, with each moniker allowing a different side of my musical personality to show. If names like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Elysia Crampton, Jon Hopkins, Brian Eno, Tim Hecker, Carmen Villain, Boards of Canada, Burial, SOPHIE, Flying Lotus, James Blake, Bjork, Radiohead, Andy Stott, James Ferraro or Arca mean anything to you then we will make a great match, as these are some of my biggest production influences. If not, but you're still looking to expand your creative potential within the DAW, then look no further! My background revolves around experimental electronic music, hardcore techno, drum 'n bass, ambient, and alternative rock and resembles the mixed approach I've taken with my musical education. I minored in musical technology at NYU, studied audio engineering at the Blackbird Academy for recorded music in Nashville, TN, and honed my chops through a mix of private teachers and personal experimentation.

Diving into the world of electronic music offers an exciting, infinite array of choices. Using a DAW, your imagination is your only barrier, or so they say... With all of the options offered by music-making software comes a plethora of knowledge required for the user to possess. It's a daunting task!
I see the DAW as a canvas to paint on. My teaching style focuses on breaking down the daunting DAW tool to permit free creative expression. One of the greatest challenges when it comes to using a DAW is maintaining a sense of momentum during the creative process. As soon as a barrier comes up in the creative process, and the user has to go from creating to problem-solving, the process quickly becomes a daunting bore.
A good workflow is essential to creative freedom. It's my goal to help you build one that will make your music flourish. This can involve making templates with all of your favorite drum sounds or discovering improvisational techniques within digital synthesizers.
I like to have half of my lesson be informational and the other half be experimental, where we apply the theory we learn to make you a more confident user and creator. Beginning with the basic navigational skills of your software, we dive into experimental techniques, music theory, synthesis, basic audio physics, and mixing tips.
There's an infinite amount of routes to take during the creative process. Together we will work to find the one that suits you and your creative drive best while equipping you with the tools necessary to be intentional and refined in your craft.

Ted's listening skills are foundational to his talents as a musician (and he has a lot of it), but they also translate into what makes for a good teacher. He listens, validates, and guides students - he doesn't come in with a preconceived notion of what the student can do, but instead works to uncover their talents.
Edward is empathic, smart, funny, and patient. He's also a good guitarist. Plus he's a good hang. All that makes for. great teacher.
I highly recommend taking lessons with Ted! His ability to explain complex concepts in a simple way has made learning enjoyable and effective. I already feel like I've made lots of progress since starting and have learned new techniques that felt challenging beforehand. If you're looking to improve your skills Ted's a great choice!
Edward gave me a couple of lessons way back when, and taught me everything I know about scales, which opened all the doors later on in my guitar playing. He was much much more advanced than I, but didn’t make me feel stupid at all. Learned a lot from him.
Edward is an incredibly skilled musician and this translates into his patient, meticulous, and dedicated teaching style. As an absolute (and very nervous) beginner, I felt immediately comfortable with him. Picking up a new skill can be daunting, especially learning from someone so knowledgable, but Edward never let me feel embarrassed or frustrated when I had to repeat parts of the lesson or take extra time. Regardless of your skill level coming in, his lessons are perfectly tailored to your ability. Even the homework he gives is fun AND helpful. I couldn’t recommend Edward more!
