About Gustavo

I’m currently a 4th year medical student at a top London medical school, and for me, this is inextricably linked to teaching. As a medical student, I have committed to a career where teaching is paramount: doctors aim not just to treat disease, but to empower patients to take control of their health through information. Also, doctors aim to pass on their knowledge to the next generation: to more junior doctors and to students. This aspect of medicine has always inspired me. Moreover, an equally important ideal of medicine is lifelong learning, continually seeking to improve my practice through acquiring new knowledge and skills. Ultimately, these are fundamental reasons why I teach: because teaching itself is at the heart of medicine, and because through teaching, I learn. I am continually learning from my students about what works, what doesn’t work so well, how to adapt my teaching, and deepening my own understanding of the subject content. Furthermore, I fundamentally believe in the importance of giving back. I am proud to have achieved academic success – achieving nine 9s (A**) in GCSE, A*A*A at A-Level, and progressing through Medicine at a highly prestigious London medical school – and I am not satisfied with ‘storing away’ this for my own benefit. Instead, I am committed to helping and empowering others to also achieve success in their goals, especially aspiring medical students who battle an admittedly gruelling application process. I am particularly passionate about helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including through voluntary work with my medical school and local church. About the lesson

I offer bespoke tutoring for UCAT and the medicine application process. As a current medical student, I aim to develop students' understanding of the application of UCAT concepts to medicine and the healthcare setting. Moreover, I also aim to provide advice based on my own experience with UCAT. I have a very adaptable teaching style to suit the individual needs of students, accounting for different learning styles, and topics which may require different teaching approaches. A typical lesson prioritises interactivity throughout, with questions, quizzes, and other exercises to keep the student engaged and check understanding. Lessons typically last for one hour each. I offer an impeccable academic record and plentiful tutoring experience in Medicine-related subjects. This includes university study, and paid and voluntary tutoring and mentoring, detailed below: • 3rd year medical student, Barts and the London (best medical school in London | Source: The Guardian University Guide 2021) . UCAT: 8th decile • SAMDA (Student Assisted Medical and Dental Applications) (voluntary) – helping aspiring medical students with interviews and UCAT (7 months) • PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Society) (voluntary) – tutoring a younger year medical student (5 months) • A Levels: A*A*A (A* in Chemistry & Biology, A in Maths) • GCSE: 9 (A**) in Chemistry, Biology & Maths + six other GCSEs • Biology GCSE tutoring: 2 academic years (2022 -) • Biology A Level tutoring: 1 academic year (2022 -) • Chemistry GCSE tutoring: 2 academic years (2021 -) • Chemistry A Level tutoring: 5 months (2023 -) Overall, my tutoring experience encompasses a range of contexts. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Gustavo in both an academic and personal sense for quite some time now.
Throughout his education, I’d describe him as an incredibly dedicated individual to his field of study. He’s intellectually curious, driving him to go beyond the limits of syllabuses and squeeze out extra marks in exams. Also, he’s an incredibly articulate individual, able to break down problems in multiple ways making him a effective communicator to a wide variety of audiences.
His drive and determination are contagious, with the revision and exam techniques he’s mastered having rubbed off on to me, which I’m hugely grateful for.
