Queensland Blue Card Holder.

I teach students from many major universities including:
University of Melbourne, Monash, Deakin, Griffith, University of New South Wales, RMIT, Torrens University, Southern Cross University, Bond University, and many others including Kaplan Business School and Australian Institute of Management.

Within the University system, I am a highly rated tutor with scores of 4.90 + out of 5.

I am highly regarded and ranked in the top percentiles of any tutors. I am first in my extended family to achieve a PhD. I understand the challenges of study at all levels, and have learnt some useful strategies to help you study with confidence. I have completed much required cultural training and am always seeking to learn about culture. I am familiar with students with various learning challenges to overcome (including ADHD) and who are on a current learning plan. I am a PhD Graduate (Monash, Caulfield, Australia) with 7 plus years teaching experience at Monash and The University of Melbourne. I have 25 years of business and management experience prior to first starting teaching (I started my first computer software business at the age of 14). I grew up in a family business that is well-known around Australia (and parts of the world). I have worked in finance, advertising, my own businesses, as a State Manager, as a sales manager, and I’ve sold to all manner of people and executives. I have worked in Australia and China, and globally. I have developed extensive knowledge of how managers work, think and what they are seeking from employees.

Please note the SuperProf platform requires me to advertise an hourly rate. However, much of my work is packaged, ongoing (over a semester for example), and can include:
1. 1-hour sessions on Zoom (live tutoring)
2. Final Essay Reviews
3. Assistance with Research Proposals.

It is potentially not accurate to give an hourly rate to cover every service that I offer. I suggest that you contact me and say hello for a customised package. I also have a website that gives you much more information about who I am, what I do and potentially good reasons why you should choose to work with me.

Note: If you are wanting an introductory lesson, for 40 minutes (ideal to have during your lunch break) please enquire.
Suitable for: busy working professionals, new to university in 2025, an introduction, and to plan any future needs. Please enquire mentioning "Express Lesson".

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When I commenced my PhD in 2016. Tutoring was part of the “deal”, as PhD students are assigned to classes for professional and personal development.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

There are two areas I specialise in. These are strategy and international business. Broadly, I can teach anything management and marketing related.
I like to discuss areas such as the external and internal environment. Here, frameworks such as Porter’s Five Forces, PESTLE, SWOT, resources, capabilities, joint ventures and business structure are critically important.

Strategy is how you navigate the environments based on what resources and capabilities are available to you. This is where some thought is required to show critical thinking and understanding. A blend of knowledge from other disciplines is useful here as well.

I also really like to discuss the skills required to be a better student. This includes areas such as clear written expression, structure and how to link your work together for increased readability. All of these things combined then translate to an improved mark in my opinion.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had a lecturer at University called Achinto Roy who inspired my interest in business, and, more broadly, ethics. Years later I continue to incorporate ethics into my teaching practice.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

An understanding of what industry requires from academic knowledge.
This is often referred to as the “real world”. The real world is the world we live in. I relate teaching and lessons to how a student would act in the workplace. This can be their current or future workplace. My students receive great value from this integration of my theoretical knowledge blended with my practical knowledge.

Generally, patience and listening skills are required.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

There are too many to mention. I think the use of real examples that I have heard from my teachers and lecturers is what really inspired me. A valuable anecdote as well is that you don’t always have to make a choice. Sometimes in the business world doing nothing is a choice.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Unfortunately, I feel there is a gap between the people teaching business and the people practising it. I feel that there is a disconnect between how the knowledge is delivered and how it is then actually used in the real world.

This is a broad area on which much research is being undertaken. It is more than practical experiences or visits to workplaces. A successful course of study is one that applies continued learning in a particular context and concurrently builds understanding of the various nuances that make up day-to-day business. This is not visible in an academic environment, in my opinion.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I value my fitness and am a keen runner. This gives me energy to think clearly and boosts my mood.

I do enjoy teaching, and am passionate about it. This has been confirmed by my student evaluations and comments (some of which can be viewed on the LinkedIn platform).
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

My ability to relate the lesson to the student. I have many examples I can draw on from my personal experience in the corporate world. I have also delivered enough content at all levels and contexts to know that everyone learns differently. I focus on building rapport with the student, not to be their best friend, but to be their best academic mentor that I can be.

It is a two-way street and the quality of the student has a big impact on the outcomes that are achieved. However, I am very happy with the quality of students that I attract. I look forward to continuing to teach on SuperProf (and beyond).
