Why do I need SPM Chemistry past year papers?

How will practising with past-year papers help me in the Chemistry SPM exam?

First of all, you should know that SPM is known for always repeating questions that have come out in previous exams! Don't be surprised to find that Question 1 from SPM Chemistry 2015 pops up as Question 2 in your SPM 2022 exam! So learning how to answer questions from past years will give you a high chance of scoring well in the next SPM exam, especially if you run into questions that you've already practised with.

Chemistry teachers and students who have already sat for SPM Chemistry also recommend current SPM candidates to practise doing not only past year SPM papers but also past year SPM trial papers. It has been said that these SPM trial papers are more challenging than the real thing and that the actual Chemistry SPM papers will be easier to score.

You should therefore also look out for Chemistry SPM 2021 trial papers, which are widely available online and offline. Apart from practising on your own, your school will also be conducting an SPM trial exam, although this is usually done twice a year before the actual examination. Sitting for the trial exam is also great practice as it simulates the actual SPM Chemistry exam.

When you sit for the Chemistry SPM trial exam, as well as practise with other past-year papers that cover each SPM Chemistry chapter, you will surely be more prepared for the real SPM exam than if you did not answer these papers.

Afterschool.my

Most students and teachers know this website as a higher education advisor, and some even visit the site to find out more about the education pathway in Malaysia to get a degree. Did you know they also provide SPM candidates with easily accessible papers that include each SPM Chemistry chapter? You just need to look for their Actual Collection of SPM Past Year Questions and SPM Repeat.

At the moment, the website offers Chemistry SPM past-year papers from the years 2014 to 2019, and this includes all the papers from Chemistry Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. You can also find SPM trial papers on Chemistry from the states across Malaysia. The great thing is that you can access both the questions and answers according to the marking scheme.

Just like the other website, all the papers that have been put up are free for students to download, along with the model answers for each paper.

What books are good for Chemistry Form 4 and Form 5?

Perhaps having good books on hand is your preference. It is true that some students study better and remember difficult chemical concepts more easily when they put their practice to pen and paper. But how do you know which SPM Chemistry workbooks or textbooks are worth purchasing?

It is helpful to first survey which Chemistry SPM books are most popular with SPM candidates and which books are highly recommended by chemistry teachers and SPM examiners. Even if you purchase the most expensive Chemistry Form 5 workbook, it may not necessarily guarantee your access to SPOT questions or questions that are popular in the SPM exam.

Even if you have bought all the books you need, we find the following two books most helpful to candidates sitting for SPM Chemistry 2022:

SUCCESS Reference Books by Oxford Fajar

Your current chemistry textbook and workbooks are sometimes not enough for helping you understand new concepts or chemical equations. The "SUCCESS" reference books for Chemistry Form 4 and Form 5 are useful because they provide a good addition to topics that already exist in your textbook.

If you like colour-coding your notes or enjoy learning with illustrations, then you should purchase these reference books. The detailed drawings, along with their thorough descriptions, make learning SPM Chemistry more interesting. Additionally, their tables and diagrams that simplify long chemical concepts also make the books a worthwhile buy for those who want to memorise concepts in chemistry.

SPM Papers Collection by Sasbadi

A great workbook to get is the SPM Papers Collection that has been compiled by Sasbadi, which you can find as "Kertas Soalan Peperiksaan Tahun-Tahun Lepas SPM". This book that comprises SPM questions and answers is updated yearly, and comes with a set of official marking schemes - so you know you are accessing the proper answers for previous Chemistry SPM papers.

Although you can still access past-year papers online, having this book is convenient because you don't need to use up your time and energy searching for these papers one by one. Since the book sold is always up to date, you can conveniently get the whole compilation of SPM Chemistry papers. You can understand the structure of your SPM Chemistry papers and better prepare for the real exam.
