What is in Chemistry Form 4 KSSM?
Do you know the study tips for Chemistry Form 4? Keep in mind that there have been changes made when the new Form 4 syllabus was introduced in SPM 2021. For instance, topics related to electrochemistry and synthetic polymer have been moved to the Form 5 syllabus. Additionally, topics related to acids, bases and salts are now found in a single chapter.
Introduction to Chemistry
In this first chapter, students learn about what chemistry is in general. This includes chemicals found in daily life, chemistry-related fields and careers, and scientific methods in chemistry.
Matter and the Atomic Structure
Next, students study what matter is and its physical states, as well as the types of particles that make up matter. This largely includes an understanding of the atomic structure.
Formula and Chemical Equations
Read about the mole concept and basic chemical equations such as the equations for relative atomic mass and relative molecular mass. Students also learn how to form chemical formulae.
How are elements arranged in the periodic table? Take note also of special groups of elements like Group 1, Group 17 and Group 18. You may also want to read up on elements in Period 3.
Chemical bonds, ionic bonds, hydrogen bonds... what are they? Learn about the role of these bonds in the formation of compounds, as well as the different physical properties of bonds.
Acids, Bases and Salt
This chapter goes beyond simply acids and alkalis - ponder about the relationships between acids and alkalis with pH values, neutralisation, and the properties of salts.
Rate of Reaction
Are you familiar with the collision theory? Students are exposed to the average and instantaneous rate of reaction equations, along with the factors that affect these rates of reaction.
Manufactured Substances in Industry
In this eighth and final chapter, master important manufactured substances such as alloys, glass, ceramics, and composite materials.

How to study KSSM Chemistry Form 5?
Now that you've mastered Chemistry Form 4, let's look at what you'll face in Chemistry Form 5.
Redox reactions refer to the reactions of oxidation and reduction. Learn about what an oxidation number is, along with voltaic cells and conditions for rusting.
Various carbon compounds make up this second chapter in Chemistry Form 5, such as alcohols, alkanes, alkenes, carboxylic acids, and esters.

Polymers are large molecules in the form of long chains and have a high relative molecular mass. Also, talk about the differences between natural and synthetic polymers.

In this last chapter, students will read up about oils and fats, cleaning agents, food additives, medicines, cosmetics, and nanotechnology - how does chemistry contribute to their manufacture?
Just like the Form 4 syllabus, the new Chemistry Form 5 syllabus comes with several updates. The chapter on redox equilibrium, for instance, replaced the old chapter on rate reactions. This change is significant because students have the opportunity to learn about standard electrode potential, which was not available in the previous syllabus. The chapter on polymers is also new to students sitting for SPM 2022.
