Cambridge Econ student and tutor for A Levels and university application preparation

I had the pleasure of working with Rishi for 2 years as his classmate in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Geography. I have witnessed his motivation to help, willingness to listen, and confidence to inspire others.

During his studies at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, Rishi demonstrated a driven attitude and maintained an exceptional academic record. Rishi achieved a string of top grades at GCSE and A-Level and was recognised by the school as the best performer in multiple subjects. Rishi also has a strong volunteering ethos, having used his expertise to mentor younger students in Maths and Economics clinics during his lunch breaks for over a year.

Rishi’s focused and observant nature allows him to build a strong rapport with those that work with him. When I collaborated with Rishi for a national essay competition and running a student society, I was impressed with his dedication in tailoring creative solutions to tackle any underlying problems directly. Rishi possesses an adaptability that enables him to communicate constructively – a valuable asset to any student he mentors.

For the last two years, Rishi has taught me Maths, Economics, and Further Maths up to an A2 standard.

I started the courses with an awareness of how the subjects operated how to answer questions and the content made sense. However, after my lessons with Mr Shah I can confidently say the difference is palpable, I have gone from receiving 50-70% in my tests to a strong and consistent 90%+.

For Mathematics and Further Mathematics, the deconstruction of the most complex theory to its rudimentary pieces has not only given me a deeper appreciation for the subject but provided me with a fundamental approach to mathematics which I continue to thrive on to date. His simple and clear strategies are unparalleled to any teacher I have worked with in the past.

For Economics, the theory often relies on complex assumptions. Mr Shah would start with a seemingly abstract scenario and work me through it till I too could fully appreciate the framework being employed by the theory. His help in my A-Level 25 markers was the biggest help, he provides clear direction supported by his extensive knowledge of past exam papers which have helped me achieve consistently high grades. However, the most useful piece of learning I have had has been the intertwined contextual analysis, I struggled to understand how to apply economic theories, with Mr Shah's direction and snippets of contextual analysis throughout our lessons I have felt much more confident in approaching all types of problems from monetary policy to labour markets to cost curves.
