I'm a professional opera singer with a Masters and Artistic Diploma in classical singing but I also have a strong background in musical theatre. I love inspiring other singers and bringing out the individuals voice and talent.
I have over 10 years teaching experience and many of my students go on to sing in West End Musicals, Opera Houses and music conservatoires across the UK. I have worked with singers on many projects including Montage Theatre Arts, Stagecoach Theatre Company, Music teacher at Monkey Music Chelsea/Westminster, workshops with schools across the UK, and CHANT productions. I was also the Project Manager for the Royal Northern College of Music's Community Outreach Program and has choreographed and directed projects for the Royal Northern College of Music's Youth Perform group. Alongside teaching I work professionally as an opera singer in venues across the UK including Glyndebourne Opera Festival so I have first hand experience of the current music industry.

Learn more about Anna (ArtDip, MMus, BMus)

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I always loved singing and I started singing in choirs and then got into musical theatre and then classical. Although, I didn't realise singing could be a career until I was a bit older so it started off just for fun!
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

It would probably be Beyoncé! She is the queen of pop and although I'm an opera singer, it is her that I would blast around the house. Her singing is incredible and we can all learn a lot from her.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I don't quite understand this question. Please could you give me an example?
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think every instrument is hard in different ways. I also couldn't comment on them all as I certainly haven't mastered them all!
I'd say people assume singing is easy as everyone can sing but the detail to become an amazing singer takes time, maturity, emotional intelligence, musicality and determination. We are the only instrument with words and stories and that is super fun!
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

I would say we should strive for perfection but be happy with excellence.
A huge part to becoming an amazing singer is also really understanding the character and the text. It makes you standout!
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Beyoncé - she's the queen of singing, performance, style. She's an icon!
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Although I sang when I was younger, I would say I came to academic music quite late. I never did GCSE music but the music teacher at my school heard me singing and encouraged me to do Alevel music. At this point I'd already chosen my a Alevels so I had to do it as an extra Alevel and this incredible music teacher taught me in her lesson frees as it didn't fit into my timetable. I managed to get the highest grade in my class including full marks in my performance and this led me to audition at music conservatories (something I didn't think was possible!).

There are many things that I learnt from this pivotal moment in my life:
    1. That one teacher was incredible influential on my future career and believed in me.
    2. I learnt that if I work hard I can get amazing results doing something I'm passionate about
    3. I know the importance of being a good teacher and how influential you can be on people's lives and careers.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I really care about each and every one of my students. I take time out of the lessons to choose music for them, I record backing tracks, I find sheet music, I send practice lists, I check in with parents regularly and I always give them clear goals and encouragement.
I know when to push students to reach their full potential but also never let them lost confidence and make sure they never stop having fun.
On top of this 90% of my students receive distinctions in their singing grades.
