About Darius
I have over eight years of tutoring experience in various subjects, with my primary focus being ESL. In my lessons, I emphasize conversation, reading, and writing. I have tutored several hundred students of all grade levels but have primarily worked with elementary and high school students. I have always been interested in helping students achieve their academic goals, as this is a truly rewarding opportunity for me. I strive to create a fun learning environment while staying focused and engaged on the topic at hand. Although learning the English language presents challenges, my goal is for students to find meaning in their academic endeavors. Additionally, I encourage students to provide feedback on how they feel they are progressing. I emphasize that we are a team, and I believe persistence, devotion, and perseverance are crucial aspects in allowing students to build confidence and recognize their abilities as students. It is important to keep sight of the bigger picture, which is to learn and develop good work ethic and study habits. Together, my students and I will remain dedicated to working diligently and achieving their goals!

As a tutor, my passion for teaching goes beyond helping students grow academically, but also and as individuals. I encourage students to have confidence in their abilities and strive to maintain a positive mindset, despite setbacks they may face.
The way I achieve these goals is by working with students to achieve their goals by providing a voice of encouragement, reassurance, and motivation. I help my students learn to build confidence in their abilities while putting in their best effort. I hold students accountable to this, and I expect students to hold me accountable to putting in 100% effort as a teacher and mentor.
I get to know students on a personal level to understand their goals, abilities, and concerns and create personalized lesson plans for each student based on their learning style. I believe tailoring lessons to meet each student's academic abilities and goals is essential to ensuring their success. Every single student has great potential and my responsibility is to create a teaching approach that ensures they reach this potential.
A typical lesson plan consists of a warm-up exercise where I reinforce the topics we covered in the previous lesson. During this time, I also invite the student to ask any clarification questions and address any of their concerns before moving on to the next topic. As we continue on to the next idea, I ensure comprehension after each step of the lesson before introducing the next topic. I truly believe that practice makes perfect. Of course, each lesson will go differently based on how the student is progressing. If I need to slow down the pace of our lessons to ensure a student's comprehension, I will absolutely do that.
No matter what a student's starting English proficiency is and regardless of what grade level they are, I am confident we would make a great team. Before you know it, your familiarity with and ability to communicate in the English language will exceed your expectations. Believe in yourself! I believe in you!
