About Rory
Hi, I’m a passionate piano tutor with 14 years of experience helping students grow in both technique and creativity. I hold a Licentiate of Music in Piano (LMusA), which has shaped my deep understanding of performance and musical interpretation. I specialize in preparing students for ABRSM, Rockschool, and university-level piano programs. My teaching goes beyond exam preparation—I focus on building confident, expressive musicians. Whether you're aiming for grades, auditions, or personal goals, I tailor lessons to suit your path. I love helping students discover their own musical voice while mastering essential skills. We’ll work on technique, sight reading, musical expression, and performance confidence. I also encourage improvisation and interpretation, especially for students wanting to explore beyond the page. My piano teaching approach is focused on building a strong musical foundation while encouraging creativity and confidence. I start by understanding each student’s goals—whether they’re preparing for exams, performing classical pieces, or simply learning for fun. I place strong emphasis on sight reading and rhythm accuracy from the beginning. To support this, I use virtual piano apps, online tools, and metronomes that help students practice with precision and stay engaged. Improvisation is also part of the journey, giving students the freedom to express themselves and develop musical intuition.
For students aiming to excel in classical performance or graded exams, I provide targeted training and feedback aligned with exam standards. I track progress through weekly goals, practice routines, and regular reviews so students can see and feel their improvement. Technique, finger strength, and posture are taught alongside expression and musicality.
We also explore scales, chord patterns, and basic theory to build a complete understanding of the instrument. My lessons are interactive, supportive, and paced to match each learner’s needs.
