About Emily

In ten years of piano teaching experience, I have worked with more than 150 students of all ages and skill levels, dedicating myself to developing their technical abilities and expressive potential. About the lesson

For me, teaching piano means creating a musical partnership with each student where their individuality drives the learning process. I start by establishing clear, achievable goals and creating lessons that are responsive to the student’s learning style, pace, and musical interests. Foundational skills such as hand position, finger independence, rhythmic accuracy, and sight-reading are developed methodically but always through engaging and relevant repertoire, which helps maintain motivation.

I incorporate a wide range of music genres to expand musical horizons—from classical sonatas and etudes to contemporary pop songs and jazz standards—allowing students to explore different techniques and expressive possibilities. Theory and ear training are interwoven into lessons as practical tools rather than abstract concepts, which helps students internalize musical structures and enhances their interpretive choices. Creativity is strongly encouraged through composition prompts, improvisation challenges, and analysis of pieces, fostering a deeper connection to music beyond just technical execution.

A student who once found classical music intimidating was inspired to write her own pieces after discovering the improvisational freedom that came with understanding harmonic progressions. I also provide guidance on performance preparation, stage presence, and overcoming nerves, so students gain confidence and professionalism. By nurturing curiosity, discipline, and artistry in equal measure, I aim to equip students with the skills and mindset to enjoy music for a lifetime.
