About Kathryn
I am a graduate student at the University of Georgia working on my masters in Math Education. I have completed all of the coursework for the degree, but I am still working on my master's thesis. I also have bachelor degrees in Math and Math Education. I have been tutoring ever since high school, but professionally I have been a math tutor for 5 years. Over the years I have tutored middle and high school students, as well as college students in various areas of mathematics (e.g., Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, etc.). Most of my experience has been face-to-face, but I also have given lessons online. I believe the combination of my math content knowledge and my passion for teaching helps me be a very successful tutor.

I think it is very important for students to be active in their own learning. In other words, I do not follow the traditional teaching methods which involve students merely learning and practicing procedures. Instead, I like to focus on teaching the concepts behind the procedures and helping students develop problem-solving skills that will help them in their math classes as well as future careers. One way I do this is by asking students guiding questions (rather than giving them the answers) throughout tutoring sessions that will help them work through their struggles. My goal is that students will then ask themselves similar questions if they get stuck on a question during a test or quiz.
I believe students know a lot more than they think they do, so I strive to instill confidence in all of my students!
