About Sàvio

Hi! I’m Sávio, a professional singer and vocal coach with a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music Performance. I’ve been fortunate to perform on stages around the world, from grand opera houses to contemporary music venues. My career spans multiple genres, including Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Oratorio and more. As a countertenor, one of the rarest male voices, I bring a unique understanding of vocal technique and artistry to my teaching. Throughout my journey, I’ve won prestigious awards, including the highest honor in an opera competition in South America, and have been invited to perform in major international events. My extensive experience on stage has given me the insight and skills to help singers at all levels, from beginners to advanced performers. In my teaching, I combine the latest vocal techniques with a student-centered approach, focusing on your individual goals. Whether you want to explore your voice for the first time or refine advanced skills, I’m here to guide you every step of the way with patience, encouragement, and expert advice. When I’m not singing or teaching, I love exploring different art forms and disciplines, including Japanese martial arts, which have enriched my approach to performance and life.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started my musical journey at the age of six, singing in sacred Latin choirs. By eight, I had already performed my first operatic role, and in 2020, during the pandemic, I created my first original operatic role. I earned my degree in Music Performance in 2022, and for the past six years, I've been teaching remotely, working with more than 200 students from different parts of the world.

Music has always been an integral part of my life. I grew up in a highly musical environment, and from an early age, I was surrounded by people who encouraged and nurtured my passion. My family, in particular, played a huge role in shaping my path, always supporting me and reinforcing my love for singing and performing.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you can listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Baroque opera, especially Handel, is what I love singing the most and could listen to endlessly. That said, I also have a deep appreciation for artists like Björk, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Marina Lima, and various experimental musicians across different genres.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I find it incredibly rewarding to work with students taking on major challenges, whether they are transitioning into a full-time music career or learning opera from scratch. Helping someone step out of their comfort zone-like an adult joining a choir for the first time or a student shifting from an office job to professional singing-is something I love. These journeys require technical precision, discipline, and a tailored approach, and I always make sure to guide my students with the right balance of structure and encouragement.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The human voice, without a doubt. Unlike other instruments, singers must not only master their technique but also perform on stage, interpret different characters, and navigate multiple languages. In conservatories, we're trained to sing in at least five different European languages and master a wide range of styles spanning over four centuries of operatic and musical theater traditions. It's a complex, ever-evolving process that requires both technical and artistic refinement.
  • What are your keys to success?

Consistency, commitment, and smart practice. There's no secret formula-if you make practice a priority and approach it with intention, progress is inevitable.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Björk - One of the most groundbreaking and original artists alive today. Her artistic vision and fearless approach to music make her someone I would love to have a deep conversation with.

Marina Lima - A phenomenal composer and singer from Brazil. She's an underrated legend outside of my country, and her career spans decades, from the military dictatorship era to the present day. I'm sure she would have fascinating insights about artistry and resilience.

Maria Callas - The greatest vocalist in history, no question. No singer in any genre has ever matched her precision, depth of interpretation, and understanding of the craft. It would be incredible to hear her thoughts on technique and artistry firsthand.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

One of my defining moments as a musician was winning my first opera singing competition after just one semester of formal training. Feeling inspired, I took a leap of faith and entered an international competition a few months later. Even though people told me I was too young and inexperienced, I pushed forward and ended up ranking in the Top 10 in Latin America. Years later, I returned to that same competition and won the top prize, along with several other awards.

This experience taught me a crucial lesson: never let discouragement dictate your path. If I had listened to those who doubted me, I wouldn't have reached those milestones. This is something I always emphasize to my students-believe in your potential and take chances, even when it feels daunting.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I'm always available for my students! If I'm awake, I'm responding to their questions. I take great care in preparing my lessons, I adapt to each student's needs, and I always bring a positive energy to my classes. My goal is to make every lesson engaging, effective, and inspiring.
