• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak English fluently because I was born in England so it seemed the sensible language to learn.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Well, hard to think of one, seeing as English is the global language, spoken by millions of people as a first language, but maybe as she has a type of English named after her, and many people believe she is a symbol of English's home country and we can imagine her English sounding the way English was spoken in times gone by, perhaps Queen Elizabeth II.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  Variety is the spice of life

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking English can help my students communicate in a global environment, have more career opportunities, study in some of the best universities, travel around easily, use the internet efficiently, enjoy a large of plays, films and songs, and become more confident in themselves.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  The difficulties in learning English depend on what the student's first language is, but generally, English
  spelling and certain aspects of pronunciation cause particular difficulties for learners.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  When I was in foreign countries teaching English I found that a good way to force yourself to speak the language was
  to speak to people who couldn't really speak English: these people were generally older people, especially who lived away from
  the big cities and hadn't spent much time abroad.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  If you're talking about my knowledge of the English language, my travels around the world, for both work and pleasure, have helped increase my
  knowledge of the language by seeing the way it is spoken by both native and non-native speakers and what learners from different countries find difficult in learning the language.

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  I believe practice makes perfect. After teaching English for more than 16 years I probably have taught more than 20,000 hours which has exposed me to an enormous
  amount of different challenges that have to be overcome. In this time I have taught at over 50 teaching institutions in 7 different countries, I have received three different teaching qualifications and I have started writing my own textbook to learn English which I hope to finish by the end of this year.
