About Kaity

My piano teaching is built on the belief that music should be approachable, challenging, and meaningful. I meet each student with a sense of respect for their individual pace and goals, and together, we build a foundation rooted in solid technique and musical comprehension. I focus early lessons on posture, hand shape, finger dexterity, and rhythmic accuracy, using a mix of method books, custom exercises, and student-chosen repertoire. As students progress, we dig deeper into stylistic interpretation, chordal analysis, and musical phrasing. I make music theory a regular part of lessons, but always in service to the student’s ability to understand what they’re playing. I’ve taught absolute beginners as well as students preparing for conservatory entrance exams, and I enjoy finding creative ways to keep the learning process motivating and enjoyable for each. One special experience was working with a young student who was visually impaired—we created a series of tactile and auditory learning systems that allowed her to learn to play with incredible expression. Watching her develop as a musician was both humbling and inspiring. I encourage students to explore improvisation, composition, and even simple arranging if they’re interested, because I believe music becomes truly alive when students take ownership of their creativity. I also emphasize practice strategies that are sustainable and enjoyable, not just disciplined. Every lesson is an opportunity to discover something new—about music, about expression, and about ourselves—and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of that journey with my students.

About the lesson

I believe that piano lessons should be a joyful, engaging, and deeply personal experience that balances technical training with creative freedom. Each student brings a unique set of goals, interests, and learning styles, and my teaching is customized to reflect that individuality. I focus on foundational techniques—correct hand posture, finger dexterity, rhythm accuracy, and sight-reading—while always connecting these to pieces and exercises that resonate with the student.

I integrate music theory and ear training naturally to build a strong musical foundation and improve interpretative skills. Creativity is a cornerstone of my approach, with improvisation and composition exercises encouraging students to discover and express their own musical voices. Technology enhances my lessons through recording tools, digital practice aids, and metronomes, which provide immediate feedback and help students track progress objectively.

I create a warm, patient environment where students feel safe to take risks and learn from mistakes, celebrating each achievement along the way. Whether students aim to perform publicly, prepare for exams, or simply play for personal enjoyment, I strive to inspire a lifelong love for music and the confidence to express themselves fully at the piano.
